Michael Fassbender is one of the most popular actors currently and he has been part of some truly big franchises, but for our readers, he is most popular due to his portrayal of Erik Lehnsherr aka Magneto in the ‘X-Men’ film franchise.
Sir Ian McKellen’s portrayal of the role is legendary and irreplaceable, however, fans loved Fassbender’s chemistry with James McAvoy and he is generally remembered as an excellent version of the character.
Considering that X-Men are about to be rebooted for the MCU, the studio will likely be looking for a new cast, and there’s no doubt that Magneto will soon join the cinematic universe.
The success of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ was vital in this newly-found interest for mutants on the big screen, as was the animated show ‘X-Men ’97’ which was a huge hit for the studio this summer.
Collider had an opportunity to talk to Fassbender the actor reprising his iconic role. The actor shared that he had a “great run” playing Magneto in four movies and hasn’t ruled out returning to the role.
He expressed his admiration for Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds, calling Deadpool his favorite Marvel character. While focused on his upcoming Showtime series ‘The Agency,’ Fassbender said he’s always open to interesting projects, though timing plays a big role in his decisions.
Well, you know, I loved working with Hugh [Jackman]. You know, he’s an absolute gentleman; he’s so talented. I’m a big fan of Ryan [Reynolds] and what he’s done with the Deadpool series.
Fassbender emphasized the importance of balancing his career with family life, wanting to be present for his two young sons with his wife Alicia Vikander. While currently focused on his new series ‘The Agency,’ he left the door open for future opportunities, saying, “You never say never.”
I’ve got two little boys. I want to be available to them and be around. So right now, my focus and energy is really going to be on The Agency, but you never say never.
