‘Mickey 17’ Budget Revealed, as the Movie Is Projected for a $18M Opening Weekend

Bong Joon-ho’s Mickey 17, his first film since Parasite, has been in the spotlight for a while, but not always for good reasons. The film’s budget has been a point of confusion, with some reports claiming it’s around $80M, but others, are sticking with the $150M figure.

Warner Bros. has recently adjusted their claim, saying the budget is actually closer to $120M, but that’s still being questioned.

The film has faced multiple release delays. Initially scheduled for March 2024, it’s now set for March 7, 2025.

As for the early tracking numbers, Mickey 17 isn’t looking too hot. It’s expected to make only about $18M opening weekend in North America—far below expectations. This is especially concerning considering its hefty price tag. The first reactions from test screenings haven’t been glowing either, with mixed reviews coming in after several screenings.

Based on the book Mickey 7 by Edward Ashton, the film follows a character (played by Robert Pattinson) who is an expendable crew member on a mission to colonize an icy planet.

After each of his deaths, he’s brought back to life with most of his memories intact, only to be sent back to work. The film has a solid cast with Pattinson, Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo, but whether this star power will be enough to turn things around remains to be seen.

As we near the release, the big question is whether Mickey 17 can pull in the audience it needs to justify the high production costs. Warner Bros. will definitely have some work ahead if it hopes to make this one a success.
