Before Disney+ shows, Netflix was home to the ‘Defenders’ Saga and several shows about street-level superheroes, including ‘Luke Cage.’ The show ran for two seasons and was popular, with Mike Colter playing the lead role.
However, it was canceled due to creative differences and shifts in Marvel’s strategy as they moved their properties away from Netflix. With the upcoming release of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ the MCU may reference past series, or even continue some storylines.
Fans are hoping some of these past shows will continue on Disney+, with Krysten Ritter expressing interest in returning as Jessica Jones. As for Luke Cage… Mike Colter recently talked to SiriusXM’s ‘The Spotlight with Jessica Shaw’ and revealed some interesting things.
Mike Colter shared that he could see himself returning to Luke Cage because enough time has passed, and he’s done enough other work that it wouldn’t feel repetitive. He mentioned that there could be another journey or chapter for the character, but he’s uncertain about Disney’s direction for the characters.
He pointed out that ‘Luke Cage’ and ‘Jessica Jones ‘had social commentary, which made their series unique, and he’s unsure if Disney would continue that aspect.
At this point, I could see myself revisiting Luke Cage because there’s been enough time and I’ve done enough things where I feel like, ‘Okay, that doesn’t feel repetitive.’ There could be another journey, another chapter for that character, but with the Disney of it all, what their direction in terms of those characters, I think Luke and Jessica had some social commentary and I don’t know if they’re up for that ’cause that’s what made us, our series, unique.
The actor explained that ‘Luke Cage’ wasn’t just about fighting random villains. He said that if Disney were to revisit those themes, he’d be open to returning. He also mentioned that the timing feels right now, but a few years ago, he wasn’t sure. Colter emphasized that he needs to consider how he feels about the project and what inspiration the story offers before deciding.
There’s a little bit of social commentary there. We’re not just, you know, fighting random people for the sake of whatever. There was a community. There was a demographic that was touched by our stories, so if they would revisit that, I think I would be up for it. You know, the timing’s right now. You know what I mean?
The timing is right. Otherwise, you know, me a few years ago, I was like, ‘I don’t know.’ I was like, ‘This is interesting,’ so I’m that kind of person. I just need to figure out where I am, you know, how I feel about it. I’m inspired by whatever they’re presenting to me.
Colter said something similar a few months ago, claiming that he doesn’t stay up at night thinking about the role but he would be willing to return for a good script and a good story.
