Disney’s Moana 2 is a huge hit on Disney+. In its first five days, the movie had 27.3 million views. This makes it the most successful Disney animated film launch on streaming since Encanto in 2021.

Before coming to Disney+, Moana 2 broke records in theaters. It had the biggest Thanksgiving opening ever and made $1.05 billion worldwide. That makes it the third highest-grossing Disney animated movie, behind Frozen and Frozen II. The first Moana made $643.3 million in 2016.

Disney+ played a big role in Moana 2’s success. Since the service launched in 2019, the first Moana has been one of the most-watched movies. Disney reports that people have watched it for 1.4 billion hours.

Because of Moana‘s popularity, Disney changed a planned streaming series into a full movie sequel. Moana 2 was a must-see for families. Over Thanksgiving weekend, it made $225.4 million in the U.S., breaking the holiday record set by Frozen II.

Fans can look forward to even more Moana. A live-action remake of the first movie, starring Dwayne Johnson, will be released in July 2026.
