Lionsgate and LuckyChap are moving forward with their ‘Monopoly’ movie, as they have hired two of the hottest writers in Hollywood, John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, to write the screenplay. The movie will be based on the classic board game from Hasbro.

The film is produced by LuckyChap, a well-known production company, and Hasbro Entertainment. Lionsgate has expanded its development rights to the Monopoly game after purchasing eOne in December 2023.

Monopoly is the world’s most popular board game, with 99% global awareness. It is available in over 100 countries and has sold nearly half a billion copies since it was first introduced in 1935.

Erin Westerman, co-president of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, shared her excitement about the project: “We knew LuckyChap would be a beacon for the best talent in town, and Lionsgate & Hasbro are thrilled that Goldstein & Daley have decided to join the fun. We’ve been long-time admirers of their work—telling bold, original, intelligent stories for all audiences. They are the perfect architects for this franchise.”

James Myers is overseeing the project for Lionsgate, and Robert Melnik negotiated the deal on behalf of the studio.

Daley and Goldstein are well-known for their work in the action-comedy genre. They have earned a strong reputation for taking popular franchises and giving them a fresh and fun twist. Their most recent success was with Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, a critically acclaimed film that they both wrote and directed for Paramount.

They also have a new project coming up later this year: Mayday, a film starring Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh, which will be released on Apple TV+ and Skydance.
