Bad News for Miles Morales Fans – Much of the ‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse’ Was Scrapped According to Insider Reports

One of the standout animated superhero projects in recent years is the ‘Spider-Verse’ franchise. The first film, ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,’ was a huge hit, and its sequel, ‘Across the Spider-Verse,’ set numerous records.

This film, which was Sony Pictures Animation’s first global release since ‘The Angry Birds Movie 2’ in 2019, received great reviews and achieved impressive box office results. It earned $690.5 million worldwide, surpassing the first movie and becoming the third-highest-grossing film in the U.S. for 2023.

It also became Sony Pictures Animation’s highest-grossing film and won Best Animated Film at the National Board of Review. Additionally, the American Film Institute named it one of the top 10 films of 2023.

We knew that ‘Beyond the Spider-Verse’ the third installment in the franchise, was in development since Chris Miller and Phil Lord gave us an update back in December of 2023 claiming that the team is working on the movie full steam.

“We’re in production… we’re really excited about where the story is going, I think it’s a very satisfying conclusion to the trilogy, and it’s as emotional as the other ones… we’re knee-deep in it.”

Now nearly a year later some worrying insider reports have arrived. Jeff Sneider, known leakers and industry insider, reports via his newsletter that most of the upcoming movie has been scrapped “due to creative reasons.” This means that the development is now restarting and the movie is likely to be released in 2027.

In December 2021, Lord and Miller confirmed a third film in the ‘Spider-Verse’ series, initially named ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part Two)’ and slated for a 2023 release. By April 2022, it got a new title, ‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.’ Amid concerns about production delays, Lord and Miller emphasized taking the necessary time for quality.

In July 2023, the film was removed from the schedule due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, with ‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire’ taking its release date. Following the strike’s end in November 2023, voice recording for the film resumed. As you can see, this is not the first delay that the movie has seen so far.
