Netflix’s Demon City Live-Action Film Releases Action-Packed Fight Clip
Netflix has shared an exciting new clip from Demon City (also known as Demon City Oni-Goroshi in Japanese), a live-action adaptation of Masamichi Kawabe’s popular revenge manga Oni-Goroshi. The footage, released on Saturday, features Shūhei Sakata, the film’s main character, taking down his enemies in a silent yet intense fight scene.
Fans won’t have to wait long to see the full film—Demon City is set to premiere worldwide on Netflix on February 27.
The story follows Shūhei Sakata, a man who was wrongly accused of murdering his wife and child. After a failed suicide attempt, in which he was shot in the head but survived, he is sent to a prison hospital, where he remains for 15 years—physically disabled and unable to seek justice. However, once he is finally released, a fateful encounter changes everything, giving him the chance to regain his physical strength and seek revenge against those who destroyed his life.
The film stars Toma Ikuta as Shūhei Sakata, the protagonist seeking justice. Several other major characters will shape the dark and action-packed story:
- Matsuya Onoe as Ryū Sunohara – The mayor of Shinjō, who built Japan’s first resort facility with a casino.
- Masahiro Higashide as Kanta Fuse – A corrupt security company head and a dangerous pervert who has taken in Sakata’s daughter.
- Masanobu Takashima as Kōtarō Shinozuka – A detective in the Shinjō police department.
- Miō Tanaka as Homare Takemoto – The head of a local cleaning service who is secretly involved in drug dealing.
- Ami Tōma as Ryō Sakata – Shūhei Sakata’s long-lost daughter.
- Tarō Suruga as Akira Fujita – Sakata’s old friend.
- Mai Kiryū as Aoi Sakata – Sakata’s deceased wife.
- Naoto Takenaka as Haruo Kawano – Leader of the Kawano yakuza gang.
- Takuma Otō as Yoshihito Takigawa – A neighborhood police officer who also sells information.
The film is directed and written by Seiji Tanaka, with production by Amuse and Digital Frontier. Legendary musician Tomoyasu Hotei, known for his work on Kill Bill and the Lupin III live-action film, is composing the movie’s soundtrack.
Demon City is based on Masamichi Kawabe’s manga Oni-Goroshi, which first appeared in Manga Goraku magazine in July 2020. The manga recently ended in November 2023, with its final volume set to be released on February 28, 2024.
