New Reports Reveal Details Regarding MCU’s Epic Post-Secret Wars Reboot

Share:

MCU has managed to somewhat recover following the release of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ in terms of interest and box office. The fact however still remains that we have too many heroes whose storylines have not been touched for years now and too many elements in the MCU that have been ignored.

The most ambitious crossover storyline ever told on the big screen has in the last few years devolved into a bloated mess, with each new installment building upon loose ends and logical inconsistencies.

This is why, for a few years now, it’s been rumored that the MCU is being set up for a reboot, and what better opportunity to reboot the whole universe than ‘Secret Wars’?

According to several sources, MCU is heading toward a reboot. In his latest October AMA Alex Perez of Cosmic Circus, however, revealed that it’s going to be a soft reboot rather than a hard reboot.

Manglor: Will there be some kind of continuity reboot after Secret Wars? Or will it just be a very soft reboot that still keeps everything prior intact, or just have there be no reboot at all?

Alex Perez:  From what I understand, it’s a soft reboot.

This just confirms something that we’ve reported on a few months back. According to Joanna Robinson and her book ‘The Reign of Marvel Studios,’ Feige plans to “prune” what doesn’t work and keep what’s working:

We have a quote from Kevin Feige sort of implying… that like Secret Wars will serve as a soft reboot in which they can prune everything. That’s not to use a Loki-ism. Prune everything that’s not working and just keep what is [working], or bring back people you thought were gone forever.

There are also rumors that the only things that will remain from this “Old” version of the Multiverse are Fantastic Four and Young Avengers, with X-Men being added post-Secret Wars reboot.

In any case, a soft reboot would indeed solve some issues, and perhaps give some characters an opportunity for a clear start. In a soft reboot, certain characters, events, or aspects of the original continuity are retained or acknowledged, while other elements may be reimagined, ignored, or updated to attract new audiences.

In the context of the MCU for example, a soft reboot could involve resetting certain storylines or introducing new versions of characters while still referencing past events in the MCU. This would allow the franchise as a whole to evolve without completely erasing the past.

I’d personally love to see Eternals rebooted, how about you? Let us know in the comments below!
