Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars are set to be major MCU films, releasing on May 1, 2026, and May 7, 2027, respectively. These movies aim to reshape the MCU and introduce an entirely new phase. Fans are hopeful for their success.

The Russo Brothers and Robert Downey Jr. are back for these films, and while Doctor Doom is confirmed as the main villain, there’s a possibility that an old MCU villain could return as well.

There’s a strong chance that Thanos might make a comeback in these upcoming movies. We’ve discovered an intriguing theory about his return that offers a fresh perspective on his character.

Recently, we reported that Josh Brolin was asked if he would be interested in returning as Thanos in the upcoming movies. Here’s what the actor had to say:

I’m not kidding — There’s a thing with playing Thanos. It’s like, ‘Oh, they’re gonna bring Thanos back.’ It’s like Sicario; it has to be right. It’s like Ryan Reynolds and I talking about Taylor Swift and we should be talking about Deadpool 4. But we go back and forth. Again, it’s what in his mind fits, what in my mind fits. Thanos has to fit if you’re going to bring him back. I would do anything that the Russos wanted me to do.

This serves as a reminder that Thanos could still make a comeback, especially considering the multiverse aspect of the current MCU phase. With that in mind, we’ve come across an intriguing theory that might explain how and in what role he could return:

Could Thanos return in MCU? And when and where? My theory now: It’s not sure yet, but if he returns he maybe return in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. If this happen, we will see his tragic death which is the removal of his skull and spine. Why Thanos has to have this death?

Because in comics Doctor Victor Von Doom did this as God Emperor Doom. Because comics aren’t a canon in MCU and we didn’t know even if Doctor Doom turn into God Emperor Doom in the film, that’s not sure.

Thanos could also appear in What if…? Season 3 or Eternals 2.

I am almost sure that if they bring Thanos to the Avengers he won’t be the villain, I think that he is gonna be a hero. Why: Because Thanos was from the begining a hero who want to give to the universe “freedom” but also there are theories that Thanos trying to stop villains like Galactus, Silver Surfer and Doctor Doom, also it will be nice if saw him to fight with Dr. Doom, this time he is the hero and Doom is the villain.

We actually support this idea. The concept of Thanos returning as a hero, specifically as an enemy of Doctor Doom, makes a lot of sense. Doctor Doom poses a much greater threat than Thanos, who primarily wants to create a more sustainable world in the MCU.

If these two characters were to face off, it could lead to a dramatic moment where Emperor Doom defeats Thanos, potentially allowing Thanos to reunite with Lady Death in the MCU, especially since she made her debut in Agatha All Along.

This would be a fantastic example of storytelling, and we would love to see it unfold.
