Ahead of the ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ premiere, Kevin Feige rated the movie an 8/10 in terms of its impact on the future of the MCU. The film turned out to be an exciting ride, with Deadpool jumping through various realities in search of a Wolverine variant who could save his reality.

The Wolverine featured in the movie is quite different from the one we saw in the Fox X-Men franchise. In this reality, the X-Men have seemingly perished, and Wolverine has given up being a hero due to grief and a sense of failure. The locals also appear to blame him for their troubles, as this version of Wolverine spent his time drinking while his team was being slaughtered.

The dark reality of Wolverine’s universe in the film may be a glimpse of what’s to come in the MCU’s mainline universe, Earth-616, and could even be the origin of Doctor Doom.

We know that Robert Downey Jr. will return to the MCU, but not as Iron Man. Instead, he will take on the role of Doctor Doom, one of Marvel’s most iconic and dangerous villains. While details about this new Doom variant are scarce, it’s clear that he won’t be connected to Earth-616—if he were, we would already know about him.

A recent fan theory suggests that Downey’s Doctor Doom could rule a dark version of Wolverine’s universe. According to the theory, with the X-Men gone and Wolverine losing his mind, the world is left vulnerable, allowing Doctor Doom to rise to power. To make matters even worse, since Wolverine left his own reality to join Deadpool’s there’s really no one to challenge Doom.

This approach might make more sense than introducing a new universe where Doom rules Latveria. Marvel has kept key details about Wolverine’s universe vague, so this theory fits well within that context.

This alternate universe would represent a failed version of the Fox X-Men world, where things went terribly wrong for the heroes. The “worst” version of Wolverine mirrors a failed Logan. If Marvel chooses to make Doom a twisted version of Tony Stark, it could work effectively. Just like Wolverine, this version of Doom would be a distorted, failed version of the MCU’s Tony Stark—the hero who could have saved this world.

Even though Marvel stated that Doom won’t have any connections to MCU’s Iron Man, there have been some insider reports in the past that claimed that RDJ’s Doom is not THE Doom as he will eventually be recast for a “true Doom.”
