“There is something for everyone here”: Executive Producer Says You Don’t Have to Watch Previous Deadpool & X-Men Movies To Enjoy ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’

One of the most common complaints when it comes to the current state of the MCU is the fact that it has too much homework. Due to the interconnected nature of the cinematic universe, you often need to watch dozens of movies and shows to understand the current project you are watching. For casual fans, this might be tiresome.

MCU decided to address this issue with the ‘Spotlight’ label. Projects marked as ‘MCU Spotlight’ are standalone and character-driver, and don’t necessarily require previous knowledge of the cinematic universe.

‘Echo’ was released under MCU Spotlight and ‘Marvel Zombies’ is one more animated project that’s confirmed to be “standalone.” Now with the release of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ and due to numerous cameos teased to appear in the movie, most of them from the previous Fox X-Men franchise, fans have been worried that they’re going to need to watch at least 10 movies and 2 seasons of ‘Loki’ to understand everything.

According to Executive Producer Wendy Jacobson, this is not the case. Anybody will be able to enjoy the movie. Speaking on the Official Marvel Podcast, Jacobson revealed that the movie has the potential to appeal to a wide range of audiences, even to someone who has no knowledge of the MCU universe whatsoever:

I will say this: there’s no barrier to entry to see this movie. You don’t have to have seen any of the MCU films, you don’t have to see any X-Men films. […] My father who has never seen any of those films is going to love this movie. One of my best friends, who I grew up with, who exclusively watches rom-coms, and will tell you that her favorite movie of all time is ‘Beaches,’ she is going to love this movie. There is something for everyone here, and it is just pure delight. And I hope that people get to experience that.

As you can see if you haven’t watched previous projects connected to Deadpool and X-Men, you don’t have to sweat it at all.
