Now that Amazon Owns James Bond, Jeff Bezos Is Asking Us Who We’d Like to See as the Next Bond

One of the richest men on the planet has just taken the reins of one of cinema’s most iconic franchises, and he’s wasting no time getting involved.

After Amazon MGM Studios seized full creative control of the James Bond series from longtime producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, Jeff Bezos decided to jump in himself—by asking the internet who should be the next 007.

Who’d you pick as the next Bond?‘ Bezos posted, attaching a screenshot of the BBC article announcing Amazon’s takeover. The response? A flood of names, some reasonable, some ridiculous, but all raising eyebrows. Henry Cavill, James McAvoy, Tom Cruise, and Theo James were among the most mentioned.

Cavill, in particular, has been a fan favorite for years, having previously auditioned in 2005 when Daniel Craig ultimately won the role. Back then, director Martin Campbell praised his acting but thought he looked too young.

Now, at 41, some wonder if he’s actually aged out of the role. ‘By the time he’s done the third one, he’s going to be 50,’ Campbell pointed out last year.

But Cavill isn’t the real story here. The fact that Bezos, the head of a corporate giant, is publicly weighing in on casting choices is a major shift. Bond has always been controlled by the Broccoli family, with quality and legacy taking priority over flashy Hollywood trends.

That may no longer be the case. With Amazon now in charge, there’s real concern that Bond could be turned into yet another sprawling, overproduced franchise.

Looking at what’s happened to Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Marvel, DC, and Star Trek, we can see that corporate ownership has led to oversaturation, spin-offs, and inconsistent quality. Could Bond suffer the same fate? Imagine a Bond Cinematic Universe packed with origin stories, prequels, and (unnecessary) side characters.

Amazon hasn’t announced its plans yet, but the warning signs are there. Bond has always been a step above the usual blockbuster machine. Now, with a company that prioritizes quantity over quality calling the shots, we might be looking at the beginning of something very different.
