As previously noted, Wesley Snipes made a surprising return to his iconic role as Blade in Deadpool & Wolverine, much to the excitement of his fans. Given his popularity, it’s no wonder that fans are thrilled to see him back in action. This resurgence has sparked rumors of a potential comeback in a future film, although this has not been officially confirmed.

The buzz around Wesley Snipes’ return has made Blade one of the most discussed characters online. In light of this, we dug into an older interview that suggests we might not have seen the full story behind the film.

In a comprehensive interview with Entertainment Weekly, producer Peter Frankfurt, writer David S. Goyer, and Wesley Snipes shared intriguing behind-the-scenes details about the original Blade movie and its trilogy.

In the interview, Frankfurt, Goyer, and Snipes covered a range of production topics, sharing fascinating insights about the superhero classic we all know and love. One notable revelation from Frankfurt was that, although Stephen Norrington ultimately directed and stamped his own mark on the original film, the producers and studio had initially considered an Oscar-nominated director. However, they all acknowledged that securing this high-profile director was a long shot.

FRANKFURT: I knew David Fincher from way before, we were friends. He was finishing Se7en at the time at New Line and he read the script and was like “What’s going on with Blade? This is pretty good, I just have some different ideas about it.”

So I said, “David, look, I would love to have you direct this movie. You’re my favorite director. But I know that you’re not gonna do it.” We were going into a meeting with Mike De Luca and he couldn’t help himself. He started talking about the first act and what he wanted to do and I could see everybody just completely mesmerized and I knew right then we were gonna waste a year, which was basically exactly what happened.

But I’d seen this movie Death Machine that this British guy Stephen Norrington had directed. It’s a little bit incoherent, but it is just nonstop balls-to-the-wall. The action is insane, and he made it for nothing. So I reached out and brought him in and he was absolutely incredible in the room — really, really personable and charismatic. I was like “Oh man, you’ve gotta meet Wesley.”
