Oscars Host Search Underway with Deadpool and Wolverine in the Running – Signals Mixed On Whether They Want to Participate

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is (so far) the biggest superhero release this year and the second-highest grossing movie this year behind ‘Inside Out 2.’ Everything that Marvel Studios pitched the movie to be – it turned out being.

It managed to resurrect some of the faith and excitement that fans had in MCU releases, and it earned a ton of money. Deadpool & Wolverine are now officially in the cinematic universe, with Reynolds and Jackman once again being under the spotlight, this year perhaps as Oscar hosts.

We’re slowly nearing the Oscar season and Reynolds and Jackman clearly have a lot to look forward to. The pair is according to Deadline being put up front to host the Oscars. This isn’t surprising considering that they are currently the funniest duo in Hollywood.

In this regard, stars such as Will Ferrell, Amy Poehler, and Dwayne Johnson have also been approached — not really surprising since it seems Johnson is asked every year and every year he declines.

It seems that Reynolds and Jackman are frontrunners, but the sources also report that they are on the edge regarding hosting the Oscars and the stars are apparently sending mixed signals.

It’s been reported that Disney and Marvel are planning an Oscar campaign for ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ with Ryan Reynolds being promoted for Lead Actor and Hugh Jackman for Supporting Actor.

Despite its enormous success at the box office, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has received minimal recognition at the Academy Awards, with only a few nominations in technical categories.

Marvel movies have received numerous Oscar nominations, primarily and almost exclusively for visual effects. Highlights include ‘Iron Man’ (2009), ‘Iron Man 2’ (2011), ‘The Avengers’ (2013), ‘Black Panther’ (2019), and ‘Avengers: Endgame’ (2020), all nominated for Visual Effects.

‘Black Panther’ (2019) won three Oscars for Costume Design, Original Score, and Production Design. Other nominations include ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ (2015) for Makeup and Hairstyling, and ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ (2023), which won for Costume Design. Angela Bassett also earned a Supporting Actress nomination in 2023.

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ seems like it stands even less chance to win anything significant, but again if Marvel and Disney truly plan on advocating for Reynolds and Jackman at the Oscars, it makes sense why the actors are hesitant to accept the invitation to host.
