Patrick Schwarzenegger Reacts to ‘The Batman – Part II’ Winter Setting Sparking Rumors of Taking on the Role of Mr. Freeze

Matt Reeves’ The Batman was a major success, but while it was always intended to exist in a separate continuity from the main DCEU, James Gunn’s takeover and the establishment of the new DCU seem to have significantly influenced ‘The Batman’ series, though this has not been officially confirmed.

Reeves is still developing his trilogy for Warner Bros., as the director recently confirmed. The sequel to the original movie, titled ‘The Batman: Part II,’ was scheduled for release in October 2025.

Despite some delays due to industry strikes, production details continued to emerge, including the return of key cast and crew members. However, it was eventually announced that the project would be delayed for an entire year, now being scheduled to be released on October 2, 2026.

Reeves also cleared up the setting of the upcoming movie and its connection to ‘The Penguin’ series. The director stated that the sequel will have a winter setting and it takes place shortly after the conclusion of the show.

Now due to the winter setting alone, plenty of people jumped to the conclusion that the villain in the sequel will be Mr. Freeze. Arnold Schwarzenegger played Mr. Freeze in ‘Batman & Robin,’ which was released on June 20, 1997. This film, directed by Joel Schumacher, is known for its colorful and campy take on the Batman franchise. Schwarzenegger’s portrayal of Mr. Freeze was characterized by his over-the-top performance and puns related to ice and cold.

It’s one of the worst performances in the history of live-action adaptations, but over the years fans came to look at it with fondness. Now hearing the news of the setting, Patrick Schwarzenegger, an actor in his own right, shared an image of the blue-themed ‘The Batman’ logo with the caption “The Iceman cometh.”

Fans quickly jumped to conclusion and asked the actor whether he would be inheriting the role from his father, ‘Gen V’ star was quick to shut down any rumors:

The situation is all the funnier considering that we recently covered how Schwarzenegger pays WB $1 a year to keep his Mr. Freeze costume.

Now a lot of fans would like to see this mythical villain on screen again, but it’s highly unlikely. Reeves most certainly won’t take ‘The Batman’ franchise in that fantastical direction as he previously confirmed as his take on the Universe is much more grounded.

We’ve already theorized which villains we can expect in the sequel based on the director’s statements and the most likely candidates are the Court of Owls.
