With the release of ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ DCEU was finally retired and Gunn’s and Safran’s DCU took over. We’ve known for years up to this point that DCU will closely follow the example set by the MCU and that the cinematic universe will consist of several phases or rather “chapters.” The first such chapter in the DCU was announced to be ‘Gods & Monsters.’ The first project released as a part of ‘Gods & Monsters’ will be ‘Creature Commandos’ but Gunn already stated that ‘Superman: Legacy’ will be the unofficial start of the new DCU.

Now, one notable project will be transferred from DCEU into the newly established DCU, and that’s ‘Peacemaker.’ ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 was already confirmed to be in development when Gunn clarified that the show will be canon to the DCU and that he will make it work in a way that is not confusing for the fans at all, and that the transition between DCEU and DCU at least as far as ‘Peacemaker’ is concerned will be as smooth as possible.

Now recently, Gunn was asked by a fan on Threads whether the show is officially a part of DCU’s ‘Gods & Monsters’ and Gunn answered with a simple “Yes,” despite the show missing from the official release slate that Gunn and Safran presented a year ago when the cinematic universe was first announced. This is most likely due to the show’s status being under question at the moment.

‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 was confirmed to be in development in February 2022. We know that the show was in pre-production for a long time, and the cast remained pretty much consistent. John Cena stars as Peacemaker, a government agent committed to achieving peace at any cost. Steve Agee plays John Economos, the warden at Belle Reve Penitentiary. Danielle Brooks portrays Leota Adebayo, a member of the Suicide Squad. Jennifer Holland is Emilia Harcourt, an A.R.G.U.S. agent closely working with the Squad. Freddie Stroma takes on the role of Vigilante, a character with a penchant for lethal justice. Recently, Danielle Brooks commented that the show should start production this year, and Gunn commented that it’s going to be released after ‘Superman: Legacy.’

DCU’s Chapter 1 ‘Gods & Monsters’ currently consists of several movies: ‘Superman: Legacy’ scheduled to be released in 2025, ‘The Authority,’The Brave and the Bold,’ ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,’ and ‘Swamp Thing.’ Only ‘Legacy’ has a confirmed release date as of now. There are also several shows in production as well: ‘Creature Commandos,’ ‘Waller,’ ‘Lanterns,’ ‘Paradise Lost,’ ‘Booster Gold,’ and finally ‘Peacemaker Season 2.’ Only ‘Creature Commandos’ and ‘Waller’ so far have confirmed release windows expected to be released in 2024.
