The Top 10 Most Powerful Female Superheroes of All Time

Female superheroes have come a long way in comics. From their early days as a not-so-cleverly used trope to propel their male counterparts into action, to starring in their own blockbuster movies, there’s no denying that female superheroes have grown leaps and bounds.
With a rise in popularity, also comes a rise in exactly what female superheroes are capable of. No longer do they merely possess super strength or make excellent acrobats. In today’s day and age, female superheroes can do everything that males can, and in some instances, more.
Now, alongside their meteoric rise comes also comes a rise in how many characters are being created. I mean, creators create what seems to be new ones twice a day. Am I right?
The problem is, with so many character creations, is that it’s tough to decipher who exactly are the most powerful. If you’re anything like us, this very thought can be stressful. So, to take away some unneeded stress we have created a list that figures exactly this out. Here are the most powerful female superheroes of all time.
List of the strongest female superheroes:
10. Lady Death
I know that you must be thinking Lady Death isn’t a superhero and shouldn’t even be here. To that, I say she isn’t a supervillain either. But when you’re the personification of Death, it’s easy to put you on a powerful female superheroes list.
Lady Death has been a central figure to many of Marvel’s greatest stories. Of them all, none may be as famous or well known as the Infinity Gauntlet.
And here’s why.
At its heart, the Infinity Gauntlet is a love story. Thanos sets out to collect the Infinity Gems (what they were called) so as to amass power and prove his love for Lady Death. Over the course of a few books, Thanos collects the Gems and obliterates sections of the galaxy. Although a really good story, the tragedy of the story is that even at the height of his power, she didn’t return the love he had for her…because she didn’t need him to do that. She could’ve done it all on her own.
9. Emma Frost
It’s no secret that I really like the Emma Frost character. Not only is she one of the most powerful telepaths in existence, but she’s also one of the greatest X-Men of all time.
Emma first appeared alongside Kitty Pryde, Sebastian Shaw, and the Hellfire Club in X-Men #129. Although she was initially an enemy of the X-Men, over the course of two decades she started to change her ways. Once a full-fledged member of the team, Emma wasted no time in rising through the ranks and becoming its leader. Emma is immensely powerful and is exactly what happens when writers take time to flesh out semi-interesting characters and make them interesting.
8. Wonder Woman
As one of the “Big Three” DC superheroes, Wonder Woman has carried the burden of high expectations since her creation. Luckily, she’s one of the most powerful female superheroes that DC has to offer so carrying that burden isn’t all that terrible for her.
As an Amazonian Goddess, Wonder Woman has more superpowers than most can dream up. For example, she can fly, possesses superhuman strength, speed, longevity, and durability. She is also one of the best fighters in DC and carries the Lasso of Truth at her side. But that’s only a small fraction of what she can do. All of these coupled with all that I haven’t named mean that Wonder Woman is everything that powerful female superheroes wish to be and more.
7. Mera
Many argue that Mera and not Aquaman is the most powerful being in Atlantis. I, for the record, am one of those arguing it. Unlike Aquaman, Mera is not a half-human half Atlantean hybrid. Instead, she is a descendant of Xebel and as such, extremely powerful.
Hailing from Xebel means that Mera can do practically anything associated with water. This means that she can move it, bend it, heat it, throw it, grow it, turn it solid, cause it to rise from the ocean and fall from the sky. Above those, she also possesses superhuman strength, speed, durability and is extremely long-lived.
Put it this way. Mera is so powerful that she controls 70% of the Earth’s surface and has bested the likes of Ocean Master in battle.
6. Supergirl
As a member of the “Super” family, it’s no surprise that Supergirl has found her way into this list. Although Supergirl’s identity has changed over the years, her power set has primarily remained the same. I’d love to take the time to list them all for you but I don’t think my fingers have the stamina to type them all out. Rather than doing that though, I’ll let you know that practically anything Superman can do, she can also do.
Supergirl is one of the most popular characters in DC and due to this, she was awarded her own television show on the CW. Whether or not the show is any good, I’ll leave that for you to decide. No different from many other female characters, Supergirl becomes more popular by the minute and as such, isn’t going anywhere soon.
5. Zatanna
Like Emma Frost, I have a soft spot for Zatanna. Like Emma Frost, Zatanna was born with her powers. And like Emma Frost, Zatanna is one of the most powerful female superheroes in existence…albeit with magic.
What makes Zatanna different from many other magic users is that to use and control her incantations she must recite the words backward. For example, LUOF NOMED EB ENOG translates to Foul Demon Be Gone. As strange as this may seem, she does it by choice.
And here’s why.
4. Scarlet Witch
Scarlet Witch has made many of my lists and for good reason. She is a prominent member of the Marvel Universe, belongs to multiple superhero teams, can change the course of any battle by merely showing up, and is one of the most powerful female superheroes.
The magic that Scarlet Witch uses has gone by a lot of names. No matter which name it goes by, however, one thing remains the same…it’s some of the strongest magic around. With it, Scarlet Witch can alter the reality of everybody in existence and then change it back without anybody the wiser. Scarlet Witch is on this list because there are very few superheroes more deserving of it.
3. Raven
As the daughter of Trigon, Raven is immensely powerful. For reference, Trigon is one of the most powerful beings in the DC Universe. In fact, he is just as feared as the likes of Darkseid, Nekron, Anti-Monitor, and Barbatos. More than that, he has enslaved just as many, if not more worlds than most of the above named.
Raven is a valuable member of the Teen Titans and a wielder of magic. As a wielder of magic, she controls shadows that will attack her enemies, heal wounds and cause the recovery time of those wounds to be practically seconds. Raven is one of the more reserved characters on the Teen Titans, only speaking or acting when necessary. Don’t let her quiet demeanor fool you, however. For as quiet as she is, she can defeat any enemy in the blink of an eye.
2. Rogue
For all the reasons that Hope Summers is…spoiler…below, Rogue is here. The difference between the two, however, is that Rogue can either temporarily or permanently steal the powers of her enemies whereas Hope Summer can… There is no better example of this than Ms. Marvel.
Before Rogue met Ms. Marvel, all she could do was temporarily absorb the powers and memories of any she touched. After Ms. Marvel, she could fly, had super strength, durability and stamina. In addition, she learned that if she touched someone long enough she could permanently absorb someone’s powers and memories.
1. Hope Summers
Just because Hope Summers is lesser-known than most other powerful female superheroes, doesn’t mean that she doesn’t belong here. Hope Summers belongs here because unlike every other of the powerful female superheroes, Hope isn’t limited to one or two superpowers. In fact, she’s not limited to any number of superpowers.
Hope is a mutant whose mutation allows her to perfectly mimic the power of any nearby mutant. This means that if in the vicinity of Wolverine, she can mimic his healing, or if around Storm, she can control every facet of the weather. Hope is one of the most important mutants to have appeared in the last twenty years and the writers have only scratched the surface of what she’s capable of.
And that’s it. The strongest female superheroes. Agree? Disagree? Who would make your powerful female superheroes list?
