Even if you’re not a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), its significance in modern cinema is undeniable. This massive, interconnected project continues to thrive, despite recent box office challenges that have concerned some fans. However, with the release of Deadpool & Wolverine, things seem to be looking up, which inspired us to compile this list.
Deadpool & Wolverine is packed with Marvel cameos, prompting us to revisit the MCU’s history of cameo appearances. We’ve ranked the 10 best cameos as of this film, detailing which movie each cameo appeared in and explaining why it deserves a spot on this epic list.
10. Sam Neill, Luke Hemsworth, and Matt Damon as Odin, Thor, and Loki (respectively)
This scene was fantastic. Three talented actors came together to portray fictional versions of the Asgardians in a play designed solely to entertain Loki, who was disguised as Odin, indulging in his own satisfaction. The moment was brilliantly meta on multiple levels and delivered a hilarious twist that delighted everyone. That’s why we chose to kick off our list with this unforgettable collection of cameo appearances from Thor: Ragnarok that we absolutely loved.
9. Jennifer Garner as Elektra
While we anticipated plenty of multiversal cameos featuring Deadpool and Wolverine, few expected a reference to the much-criticized Daredevil film starring Ben Affleck. Even those who did likely assumed Affleck himself would make an appearance. Instead, we were treated to Jennifer Garner’s return as Elektra, which turned out to be a fantastic surprise, both for her performance and the way it was brilliantly woven into the story.
8. Channing Tatum as Remy LeBeau / Gambit
If you’re curious about which Marvel movie featured Tatum as Gambit, the answer is none. He was set to star in a Gambit movie that was ultimately never made, leading many fans to believe they’d never see Tatum in the role. However, Deadpool & Wolverine made it happen, rekindling our hopes that Gambit might still get his own movie, as previously promised.
7. Hayley Atwell as Captain Carter
We’ve seen Atwell as Peggy Carter in both the movies and her own series, but Agent Carter is different from Captain Carter, Britain’s version of Captain America. She made an appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and while her role was more bittersweet than triumphant, we loved it. It was a clever and exciting way to bring Atwell back into the story.
6. Dafne Keen as Laura / X-23
Dafne Keen’s portrayal of X-23 was a standout in Logan and a key reason the movie was so exceptional. Fans hoped she would return to the role, and it finally happened in Deadpool & Wolverine, where her appearance was both a major and epic moment. Now older and more reminiscent of her mentor, she also demonstrated remarkable wisdom for her age, adding even more depth to her character.
5. Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock / Venom(‘s blob)
The context of this scene from Spider-Man: No Way Home remains a mystery, but we’re hopeful that the final Venom movie will shed some light on it. Regardless, Tom Hardy’s unexpected cameo alongside Venom was a hit with fans, making it a must-include moment on our list of major enigmas.
4. Sir Patrick Stewart as Charles Francis Xavier / Professor X
A fan-favorite cameo from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, seeing Patrick Stewart return to one of his most iconic roles was a real treat. For many, especially newer generations, he became synonymous with Professor X, making this appearance all the more epic and universally beloved.
3. John Krasinski as Reed Richards / Mr. Fantastic
No matter what you think, the MCU’s decision to listen to fans and cast John Krasinski as Reed Richards was absolutely fantastic (pun intended). Like Atwell’s cameo, it was bittersweet for several reasons, but it remained an epic moment that fans continue to adore.
2. Wesley Snipes as Blade
Given that Marvel is working on their own Blade movie and the well-known feud between Snipes and Reynolds during their time together, no one saw this cameo coming. But when it happened, we loved it. It was one of the movie’s standout moments, earning it a well-deserved high spot on our list.
1. Any Stan Lee Cameo
We could have chosen any of his cameos, but Stan Lee had to take the top spot. As the creator of it all, his appearances are an integral part of MCU culture. Honoring him this way was a must, especially since his cameos continued even after his passing, making this the only fitting choice for first place!
