RDJ’s Dr. Doom Will Be Explained in the Comics Before ‘Doomsday’ Releases, According to a Marvel Writer

Robert Downey Jr. has recently announced his return to the MCU, this time as Doctor Doom – “same task different mask” as the actor stated. We know that for the last few years, the MCU has been setting up Kang the Conqueror to be the main villain of Multiverse Saga, but following his legal troubles, Marvel Studios decided to go in a different direction altogether.

Now the reception to the RDJ’s announcement has been mixed at best. Fans are afraid that the MCU doesn’t have enough time to set up a character as big as Doctor Doom properly. This is why we expect him to appear at least with a cameo in the upcoming ‘Fantastic Four: First Steps.’

Some recent news however points in the direction that if fans want to understand RDJ’s Doctor Doom properly, they should pick up the source material for the cinematic universe – the comics.

Deniz Camp, a Marvel writer recently posted that if fans want to understand this Doctor Doom variant they should check out the upcoming ‘Ultimates #4’ set to be published on September 4, 2024.

The official synopsis for the issue states the following:

THE FATE OF THE ULTIMATE FANTASTIC FOUR! Doom’s years of torture at the hands of the Maker finally catch up to him in this secret history of the real Reed Richards! And tensions rise among the Ultimates when Doom might be more fixated on re-creating the life he should have had than the life he’s got…

The ‘Ultimate’ series has been ongoing since June. Spun out of Jonathan Hickman and Stefano Caselli’s ‘Ultimate Universe #1.’ Deniz Camp and Juan Frigeri launched a new series featuring an all-new team of Ultimates.

The series deals with Tony Stark sending Peter Parker a radioactive spider to help him become Spider-Man again. Since then, Iron Lad (Stark), Captain America, Doom, Thor, and Sif have been gathering other lost heroes to form a network of super-powered individuals seeking change. Together, they aim to destroy the Maker’s Council and restore freedom and free will to a world ruled from the shadows. By the looks of it, Issue 4 will be dealing with Doctor Doom, so if you’re eager to know more about MCU’s variant, you should definitely check it out!
