“Reacher” Star Exposes Hollywood’s Woke: Why the Left Controls Entertainment

Actor Matthew Marsden, known for his roles as Paris in Helen of Troy and Stan in Prime Video’s Reacher, recently shared his thoughts on why Hollywood is dominated by woke and leftist ideas.

Marsden responded to a post on X, where someone pointed out that left-wing funding for movies and TV shows often comes without the expectation of making a profit. The post also suggested that taxpayer money is sometimes used to support these projects.

In his reply, Marsden explained how the left sees movies as a powerful tool to shape culture. He argued that even if a film doesn’t perform well financially, it still serves a purpose by spreading certain ideas and influencing audiences.

Matthew Marsden is arguing that left-wing groups and individuals in Hollywood see movies as a long-term investment, not just a way to make money. He believes they use films to shape public opinion and influence culture, even if those movies don’t become big hits.

He points out that many Oscar-winning films are not widely watched by the general public. However, winning awards brings attention to these films, boosting their box office sales and streaming views. This helps spread the messages within them to a larger audience.

By funding these movies, the left also pays large sums to actors who use their platforms to spout leftist ideas. That’s money well spent for them.” Marsden argues.

Marsden also suggests that left-leaning investors and studios pay high salaries to actors who promote their political beliefs. In his view, this spending is strategic—it ensures that influential figures in Hollywood continue to push leftist ideas to the public.

He’s arguing that the left has a strong hold on Hollywood, not just in terms of making movies but also in how they are distributed. He believes that because left-leaning groups control the industry, there is no guarantee that investors who don’t align with their views will make their money back. Even if an investor takes steps to reduce financial risks, the industry remains closed off to real competition, making it difficult for alternative voices to succeed.

Also, right now the left has the monopoly in the industry and distribution. There is no guarantee that an investor will get their money back. You can do whatever you can to mitigate the risks, but until the industry if forcibly opened up to competition, this will always be the case.

He also points out that independent investors—those outside the Hollywood system—often hesitate to spend big money on major talent. Even when they do, they face another problem: many top actors in Hollywood actively promote leftist political views. This means that conservative or neutral investors might end up funding actors who use their influence to push messages that go against their own beliefs.

Marsden compares this to political campaign donations, where wealthy donors spend tens of millions on candidates who often lose, meaning there is no financial return on investment (ROI). He mentions Dr. Oz as an example of a failed campaign that received massive funding but didn’t succeed.

Just remember… big donors give 10s of millions to political campaigns that go nowhere ( Dr Oz anyone?) and there is no ROI.” He said.

However, he sees movies as a more lasting investment. Even if they don’t make a huge profit, films stay around forever and can continue to influence people for generations. In his view, this makes them a powerful tool for shaping culture over time.

At least movies are out there forever and can influence generations for the rest of time.
