Renew ‘The Acolyte’ Petition Reaches Record Numbers, But It’s Not Very Effective

‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ has recently been in the news, but not for good reasons, as it was canceled after just eight episodes. Lucasfilm and Disney haven’t disclosed the exact reasons, but insiders suggest it was due to high production costs and low viewership.

The show was already controversial before its release, so the cancellation didn’t come as a surprise to many.

The show suffered from review-bombing campaigns, which wouldn’t be as effective if the show wasn’t at the same time extremely low quality with poor acting, scripting, directing, and character development.

As I’ve already stated, no one was shocked when Lucasfilm decided to pull the plug on the whole project, despite Headland claiming that she already has some stories she would like to explore in season 2.

Still, if the haters can organize themselves so can the fans. Soon after the show’s cancelation the petition to renew the show was launched on Change.org. We’ve been following the campaign quite extensively in the past and we decided to revisit it.

The petition currently has more than 80,000 signatures. Despite an overwhelmingly positive response to the petition, it’s unlikely that it will manage to sway Disney’s mind. This is something we also discussed in great detail in our separate report. To give you a summary, the show is way too expensive and delivers record-low viewership and negative critics’ responses. No one wants to gamble with that.

A few days after the petition to renew ‘The Acolyte’ was launched, the petition to de-canonize it has also found its place on Change.org. This petition has much fewer signatures currently standing at over 26, 000 signatures. It’s impressive, but nowhere near impressive enough to actually work.
