Hogwarts Legacy made big money, so Warner Bros. had high hopes for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. David Haddad, in charge of gaming at Warner Bros., pushed hard for it. He approved TV ads and even got coverage on CNN, which the company owns. He believed this game could hit a billion dollars, too.
After six years in development, the game launched—and flopped. People just didn’t want another online shooter. Rocksteady abandoned its long-term content plans after only a year. The game’s ending felt rushed, undoing major plot points by revealing the supposedly dead superheroes were just clones.
Now, Rocksteady is moving back to what it does best—Batman and single-player games. But if you’re hoping for a new one anytime soon, don’t hold your breath. It’s still years away, so we don’t have any precise information about it at this point, save for the fact that it is reportedly being developed.
Rocksteady had spent years building a reputation for single-player games like the Batman: Arkham series. Shifting to a multiplayer shooter wasn’t easy for the company, and Suicide Squad proved that.
Many developers left, including studio heads Jamie Walker and Sefton Hill, who later started a new company and took some former team members with them. With Rocksteady facing a difficult time, going back to its roots could be the best decision the company has made in a while.
