Reports Tease a Bigger Role for Kate Bishop in Rumored ‘Hawkeye’ Season 2

Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye is one of the fan-favorite characters in the MCU his last live-action appearance was in ‘Hawkeye’ show although he did recently take on the role of a voice actor in ‘What If…?’ Season 2 Episode ‘What If…Happy Hogan Saved Christmas.’

Now Disney+ shows don’t usually get a second season, with the exception of ‘Loki,’ in which case the second season was even better than the first one, but it seems that yet another MCU show will be getting a second season, the one and only ‘Hawkeye.’

Bear in mind that no official confirmation for the show exists, the existence of the project in development was however confirmed by a few inside sources, most recently by Alex Perez in his recent Discord AMA. Perez also claimed that Kate Bishop, who took over as MCU’s Hawkeye is set to have a bigger role in the show:

Liam | Kate Bishop Fan: hi Alex, hope you are well, do you know anything about if Hawkeye S2 has been greenlit/development?

Alex: I’ve heard that Hawkeye S2 is in development with several ideas, primarily one that would put Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop in a more prominent role than she was in the first season. But again, being in development and moving forward are two very different things.

And if you’re thinking that too much time has passed since Hawkeye’s last appearance in the MCU, you would be correct. Namely, not only was his character “retired” as Kate Bishop taking on his “duties,” Renner has been in quite the accident more than a year ago.

On January 1, 2023, he was hospitalized following a severe accident at home involving his snowplow, resulting in blunt chest trauma and 30 broken bones. The snowplow, weighing 14,330 pounds, ran over him. He was airlifted to Renown Regional Medical Center, underwent surgery, and remained in critical condition in the intensive care unit. On January 17, he was discharged and returned home. Ten weeks later, he started walking with a cane, and doctors attributed his survival to his health and fitness.

Recently, we found out that he was clinically dead when he was given medical attention.

Still, except for the “too large time gap,” there are no reasons why Hawkeye couldn’t and shouldn’t return to the MCU. For starters, Renner himself stated that he feels strong enough to return. As far as his retirement goes, the character already retired three times and he keeps coming back so this is nothing unusual.
