Recently, we covered the sale of an original Stormtrooper costume at auction. This time, we’re diving into the world of high-end movie memorabilia to explore some of the most luxurious items ever sold.

Thanks to insights from our friends at Public Desire, we’ve put together a list of the nine most expensive movie memorabilia of all time. Starting from 9th place and counting down to the most expensive piece in 1st place, you’ll get to see these iconic items—and their jaw-dropping price tags.

9. The dancefloor from Saturday Night Fever – $1.7 million (2020)

Saturday Night Fever, the iconic 1977 film, perfectly captured the disco era and became a cult classic. It skyrocketed the careers of John Travolta and the Bee Gees, leaving a lasting legacy even for those who haven’t seen it.

One standout piece of movie history from the film is the dancefloor where Travolta showcased his legendary moves. This one-of-a-kind set piece sold for an impressive $1.7 million in 2020, making it the most recent addition to this top 10 list. While we don’t know what the buyer has done with it, we can only hope they’re still enjoying it in true disco style!

8. Star Wars‘ R2-D2 – $2.75 million (2017)

R2-D2 is one of the most recognizable characters in film history. This beloved droid became a symbol of the Star Wars franchise, and even those who haven’t seen the movies likely know who R2-D2 is.

In 2017, a movie replica of R2-D2 was sold for a staggering $2.75 million, securing its spot on this list. While we’re not sure how functional it is compared to the on-screen version, owning the original droid must be a dream come true for any Star Wars fan!

7. Dorothy’s ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz – $3 million (total)

As you might expect, several pairs of these iconic shoes exist, and when you add up all the sales from various auctions over the years, they’ve fetched a combined total of around $3 million. Worn by Judy Garland in The Wizard of Oz, these ruby slippers are considered a priceless piece of cinema history and rank among the most treasured movie memorabilia of all time. Owning them must be an incredible honor for any collector.

6. The Cowardly Lion costume from The Wizard of Oz – $3.07 million (2014)

We’re still in Oz with this one, as another piece of movie history broke records in 2017. That’s when Bert Lahr’s Cowardly Lion costume from The Wizard of Oz was sold for an incredible $3.07 million, securing its place at the top of the list.

The Cowardly Lion remains one of the most iconic characters from the film, and the costume is undoubtedly a priceless piece of cinematic history. It’s easy to see why someone would pay such a hefty price to own it.

5. The Batmobile from the Batman series – $4.6 million (2013)

The 1960s Batman series, starring Adam West and Burt Ward, remains a classic of superhero television, despite its outdated style and very different approach to superhero storytelling compared to today.

In 2013, the iconic Batmobile from the series, packed with gadgets, was sold for a whopping $4.6 million. While we’re unsure if the gadgets still work or if the car is roadworthy, keep an eye out around town at night—you never know, Batman might just be cruising by!

4. Marylin Monroe’s “Happy Birthday” dress – $4.8 million (2016)

You might assume that a regular dress (and in many ways, it was just that) wouldn’t be worth more than a car, but this isn’t just any dress—it’s a piece of history.

Worn by Marilyn Monroe during her famous “Happy Birthday” performance for President John F. Kennedy, it has become an iconic symbol of a moment in time. While we can’t say for certain why it’s valued so highly, it’s easy to understand why someone would pay such a large sum to own it.

3. Robby the Robot from Forbidden Planet – $5.375 million (2017)

Forbidden Planet is set to be remade, bringing the beloved sci-fi classic to new audiences with a fresh perspective. However, when it first aired, it quickly became an instant classic, and fans still fondly remember many moments from this landmark sci-fi film.

Robby the Robot, a cult icon from the movie, is one of cinema’s most recognizable characters. The price he fetched at auction makes perfect sense—he’s a true movie legend and an enduring symbol of sci-fi history.

2. Marylin Monroe’s subway dress from The Seven-Year Itch – $5.6 million (2011)

When it comes to Marilyn Monroe, this piece of memorabilia is undoubtedly one of the most iconic related to the legendary actress. The white dress is not only a symbol of Monroe’s unforgettable legacy but also one of the most famous moments in cinematic history. Sold for an impressive price in 2011, it’s easy to see why someone would be willing to pay such a hefty sum for it.

1. James Bond’s Aston Martin DB5 – $6.4 million (2019)

At the top of the list is none other than Bond. James Bond. It’s no surprise, given how deeply ingrained the James Bond franchise is in pop culture, and we can easily understand why such an iconic car would fetch such a high price. Driven by Sean Connery in Goldfinger and Thunderball, the car, like the Batmobile, was equipped with a variety of signature gadgets. While we’re not sure how functional they are, we do believe the car itself is still in working condition—kudos to the lucky owner!
