Rey’s Next ‘Star Wars’ Adventure: Filming Delayed to Next Year with Plot Changes in the Works!

In October 2022, it was reported that Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson were co-writing a new Star Wars movie, tentatively dubbed ‘New Jedi Order’ with Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy as the director. The film was supposed to take place after the sequel trilogy, possibly featuring characters from those films.

However, by March 2023, Lindelof and Britt-Gibson left, and Steven Knight replaced them as the screenwriter. Daisy Ridley was confirmed to return as Rey in April 2023, but by October 2024, Steven Knight also left, and George Nolfi was hired to write the screenplay, with filming now expected to start in late 2025.

Industry insider Daniel Richtman however recently reported on his private Patreon that the movie is scheduled to begin filming next year instead of this year. Additionally, he’s heard that there are some changes being made to the plot, though it’s unclear what those changes are.

The movie is already considered to be in development hell, but given how often writers change, it makes sense for the story to be adjusted slightly. Ridley recently commented on the script, saying that while she hasn’t read it yet, she knows the story and believes it’s excellent.

The plot is under wraps but ‘New Jedi Order’ story is set 15 years after ‘Rise of Skywalker,’ exploring the post-war, post-First Order galaxy with the Jedi in disarray. Kathleen Kennedy shared that Rey is working to fulfill her promise to Luke and rebuild the Jedi Order, based on ancient Jedi text.

According to some past rumors, this movie is not supposed to lead to a new trilogy, but considering some developments within the Star Wars franchise in the last few months, and talks about Rey still being the central to franchise, we really have no idea where we stand at currently.

Ridley also recently commented on the film’s numerous delays claiming that Disney is simply trying to deliver quality over quantity.
