Robert Eggers Says ‘Batman Returns’ Was a Surprising Inspiration for ‘Nosferatu’
Filmmaker Robert Eggers has revealed that Tim Burton’s 1992 classic ‘Batman Returns’ had a big influence on the visuals of his critically acclaimed movie ‘Nosferatu.’
In a recent interview, Eggers shared that while working on ‘Nosferatu,’ he watched ‘Batman Returns’ and was struck by its dark, gothic style.
“I threw on Batman Returns, and the snowy, gothic atmosphere of that movie is, it’s quite like, shockingly similar to a lot of what we were doing here,” Eggers said
‘Batman Returns’ is famous for its dark, gothic, and eerie atmosphere. The movie has snowy, shadowy city streets and twisted, gothic buildings that make it feel like a creepy fairy tale.
Critics praised its unique visuals and Danny DeVito’s performance as the Penguin but felt the tone was too dark for a Batman movie. Some fans loved its strange and artistic style, while others thought it was too weird. Over time, it became a cult classic, known for its bold and haunting look.
‘Nosferatu’ received mostly positive reviews from critics, and the movie turned out to be a surprising hit among audiences. ‘Nosferatu’ made $167.3 million worldwide, with $94 million from the U.S. and Canada and $73.4 million from other countries. It was expected to make $25 million in its first five days but ended up earning $40.8 million.
