Robert Pattinson Has Reportedly Read the Full ‘The Batman 2’ Script – But Gunn and Safran Are Left Out

It’s official enough that the development of ‘The Batman Part 2’ is turning out to be extremely difficult. The movie was originally announced in April 2022, with Robert Pattinson and director Matt Reeves returning.
Mattson Tomlin joined as co-writer in August. Since then the movie was delayed two times by two years in total. The film was first called The Batman – Part II but lost its title by December 2024 as Reeves kept working on the script, a script that is, going by the official statements, still not done.
Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell will return as Gordon, Alfred, and Penguin. Filming is set to start in late 2025 at Warner Bros. Studios in England. The movie is scheduled to release in the U.S. on October 1, 2027.
Now industry insider Jeff Sneider revealed some interesting news on the Hot Mic podcast with John Rocha. According to Sneider Robert Pattinson has reportedly read the full script for The Batman 2, but James Gunn and Peter Safran have not seen it, and Matt Reeves doesn’t have to share it with them unless necessary.
Pam Abdy and Michael De Luca can give feedback since the script is under their control. Gunn and Safran can’t make changes unless the script is officially sent to them.
“I’m told Robert Pattinson has read the script. I’m told there is a script. Robert Pattinson has read the script for ‘The Batman 2’ but that does not mean that you-know-who has read the script.” Sneider said.
He continued that Reeves is under no obligation to send the script in for review to Gunn and Safran, the current heads of DC Studios: “It’s not their script to give notes on. It doesn’t get to them yet, they don’t need to see it, they are on a need-to-know basis” He said.
We have no way to verify Sneider’s claims, so for now, this remains just an interesting rumor. Just a week ago, Gunn confirmed that the script hadn’t been submitted yet, but he didn’t comment on the legal details Sneider mentioned.
Not much is known about the plot of the upcoming sequel, except that it will have a winter setting. This has led to speculation that Mr. Freeze could be the main villain. However, past comments from Reeves also suggest that the Court of Owls might play a major role.
