Rumor Claims Wong Will Lead ‘Strange Academy’ Series, Doctor Strange to Make a Cameo
Benedict Wong, known for his role as Wong in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, first appeared in Doctor Strange back in 2016. Over the years, Wong has become a key figure in the MCU, showing up in various other Marvel projects. Now, there’s buzz that Wong might take the lead in a new TV series called Strange Academy.
Industry insider @MyTimeToShineH recently shared a scoop that Wong will star in the rumored Strange Academy project, though Marvel and Disney haven’t officially announced it yet. According to the scooper, Benedict Cumberbatch could also appear in the series, but his role would likely be small and isn’t confirmed yet.
In late 2024, rumors about Strange Academy started gaining traction. In the Marvel Comics, Strange Academy is a school founded by Doctor Strange for young, magically gifted students to develop their powers.
Created by Skottie Young and Humberto Ramos, this academy made its first comic appearance in 2020 and has since been a significant part of Marvel’s magical universe.
If these rumors hold true, this would be Wong’s first leading role in the MCU after years of being a supporting character.
Back in 2021, at the Spider-Man: No Way Home premiere, Wong joked with Marvel.com that Kevin Feige had dubbed the MCU as the ‘Wong Cinematic Universe’, or WCU. This statement, reported by CBR, highlights Wong’s growing importance in the franchise.
Should Strange Academy come to life, it will likely debut on Disney+ alongside other Marvel TV shows.
