Rumor: Sam Raimi Is Reportedly Marvel Studios’ Top Choice To Direct ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’

Even though the entire movie and television industry is currently frozen in place amid ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, rumors and reports about upcoming projects that will resume development as soon as the strikes are resolved are surfacing daily. As we know, the streaming content of the Marvel Cinematic Universe recently faced major delays, and given the situation, we are basically already preparing to write an article about more movie delays as well.
As the negotiations to resolve the strikes fairly continue (we hope they do, at least), we still have plenty to talk about everything we eventually expect to watch on big and small screens. The MCU fans are currently more hyped about movies that aren’t so far away, such as ‘Deadpool 3,’ ‘Captain America: Brave New World,’ and ‘Thunderbolts,’ which are all set to arrive next year (according to the current schedule), but still, we never forget to look far into the future, where two brand-new ‘Avengers’ movies are waiting.
At last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Kevin Feige officially announced ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ collectively serving as a two-part culmination of the Multiverse Saga. Just like in the case of ‘Infinity War’ and ‘Endgame,’ these two movies will also be released only a year apart from each other, but the difference is that this time, they won’t be filmed back-to-back and they’ll be developed by two separate teams of writers and directors.
Marvel Studios reportedly hopes that Sam Raimi will return to direct another Marvel movie!
It’s already known that Destin Daniel Cretton, who previously directed 2021’s ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,’ has signed to direct ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.’ As for ‘Secret Wars,’ it’s still unknown who will direct it, but the movie is still far away, and it might be too early to announce the director just yet.
However, according to MyTimeToShineHello, Sam Raimi, who is known for directing the original ‘Spider-Man’ trilogy and 2022’s ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ is Marvel Studios’ top choice to direct the sixth ‘Avengers’ movie. Although DGA (Directors Guild of America) isn’t participating in ongoing strikes, the negotiations between the studio and Raimi won’t continue before the strikes are resolved.
Raimi returned to directing superhero movies with ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ for the first time since his unpleasant experience with 2007’s ‘Spider-Man 3,’ after which he walked out on another ‘Spider-Man’ movie with Tobey Maguire, resulting in his ‘Spider-Man’ franchise to be canceled. As the talented filmmaker he is, Raimi did a really good job on ‘Doctor Strange,’ for which his direction was praised, although Michael Waldron’s screenplay faced some criticism.
Although it wasn’t officially announced, it is definitely expected that a third ‘Doctor Strange’ movie will happen before the Multiverse Saga concludes with ‘Secret Wars.’ It’s still unknown if Raimi expressed his interest in directing a Benedict Cumberbatch-led MCU movie again, but we know that Destin Daniel Cretton signed for both ‘The Kang Dynasty’ and ‘Shang-Chi 2,’ so who knows what plan Marvel Studios have with directors and their schedules.
According to the current schedule, Avengers: Secret Wars is set to be released on May 7, 2027.
Do you think Sam Raimi would be a good choice for ‘Secret Wars’? Do you think Marvel Studios is making a mistake by not developing both upcoming ‘Avengers’ movies back-to-back with the same writers and directors?
