Although there is one more DC movie left to be released this year, 2023 is definitely a year that Warner Bros. and DC executives will want to forget as soon as possible. Three movies were released this year, which turned out to be three consecutive flops. It’s no wonder that the studio is stalling so much with the marketing campaign of ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,’ which will close DCEU.

Once DCEU is finished, maybe WB and DC can start hoping for the arrival of better days. Apart from the soft-reboot cinematic universe called DCU, we know that there are two Elseworlds movies in development: Todd Phillips’ ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ and Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman — Part II,’ and the latter just got a new update regarding its development.

‘The Batman — Part II’ aims to start production next spring, and a potential villain may have been revealed!

After plans for a Batman movie starring Ben Affleck were scrapped, Matt Reeves redeveloped the project as a new Batman reboot, and Robert Pattinson was cast to play the new Caped Crusader. ‘The Batman’ was released last year, and it became a critical and commercial success, grossing $771 million worldwide, which makes it the most successful DC movie since 2019’s ‘Joker.’ It’s no wonder that WB moved forward with the sequel despite the fact that we’re gonna get a new Batman in DCU eventually.

According to MyTimeToShineHello, the plan for ‘The Batman — Part II’ is to start production in March 2024. The release date is currently set for October 3, 2025, but it’s unknown what percentage of the script was finished before the strikes began. Matt Reeves and Mattson Tomlin are developing the script, but of course, the project is currently on hold, and since it’s unknown for how long the strikes will last, there are still chances that the movie could face further delays.

The mentioned report also said that Clayface is to be involved in the movie, although we officially still don’t know which villains we’re going to see in the sequel. KC Walsh later backed this report by saying that the movie indeed aims to start production next year, but the co-CEO of DC Studios, James Gunn, wants Reeves to take his time with the project. Well, after that first movie, we’re all expecting a lot from Reeves, and we have no doubt he’ll deliver.

Subsequently, KC Walsh also said that Clayface may even appear in The Penguin spin-off series next year before he appears in ‘The Batman’ sequel.

‘The Batman’ was the first movie in the so-called Bat-verse, a shared universe separated from both DCEU and DCU, focused solely on the World’s Greatest Detective and his lore. Apart from the coming sequel, there’s also a spin-off series, ‘The Penguin,’ in which Colin Farrell will reprise the role of Oswald “Oz” Cobblepot, and the series will follow his rise to the top of Gotham’s criminal underworld.

Directed by Matt Reeves and starring Robert Pattinson, ‘The Batman — Part II’ is currently scheduled to be released on October 3, 2025.

Are you looking forward to ‘The Batman — Part II’? Do you think it’ll repeat the success of the original amid DCU kicking off soon? Let us know in the comments.
