“This Sounds Terrible”: Rumored Plans for Iron Man in the MCU Leave Fans Reeling

Share:

Ever since Iron Man died in ‘Endgame’ one chapter of MCU has ended and pretty much all fans were aware that the MCU that we’ve known ended as well. For years now fanks have been asking for Tony Stark to be returned from the dead, despite Feige stating several times that this is out of the question.

For the character to return, the emotional impact of ‘Endgame’ would be completely undone. Recently, there’s been talk that RDJ’s Iron Man might resurface in the MCU as a variant in ‘Secret Wars.’ Robert Downey Jr. also confirmed that he is willing to return to the MCU as the role is integral to his DNA.

Now industry insider and leaker Jeff Sneider has teased in his weekly newsletter that MCU does plan on bringing Tony back, but in a much more complicated way than planned. According to him, Robert Downey Jr. might return in a future ‘Avengers’ film, portraying a version of Tony Stark who transforms into Doctor Doom.

This sounds like a reversed version of the Infamous Iron Man storyline which sees Doctor Doom becoming Iron Man. It’s also quite possible that the MCU will attempt to adapt the Superior Iron Man variant to the big screen.

Both Iron Man and Doctor Doom are heavily rumored to be involved in the upcoming ‘Secret Wars,’ although at this point over 60 characters have been teased for the future ‘Avengers’ installments, so it’s really hard to trust rumors and scoops these days.

Fans did not react to these rumors kindly:

Ironically enough, it’s been revealed some time ago that Robert Downey Jr. initially auditioned for ‘Fantastic Four’ (2005) for the role of Doctor Doom, which eventually went to Julian McMahon.
