The start of the Multiverse Saga was supposed to usher in a new villain, Kang the Conqueror replacing Thanos, who was generally regarded as the most iconic comic-inspired live-action villain of all time (according to my humble opinion at least). Kang, or at least one variant of Kang debuted in ‘Quantumania’ and fans loved Majors as Kang well enough, it’s the movie that flopped and the story that felt somewhat flat and unexciting considering that it’s supposed to usher in a new era, and set the foundation for the next biggest scare of the superhero world. Then, following the release of ‘Quantumania’ Majors was arrested on pretty serious charges.

According to the charges, Majors allegedly struck the alleged victim ‘about the face with an open hand, causing substantial pain and a laceration behind her ear.’ And while his lawyers quickly provided evidence that such a thing never took place, the case was far from over. Although Disney avoided making the same mistake as they did with Johnny Depp in his high-profile case with fellow actress Amber Heard, they took their time evaluating whether they would proceed with Jonathan Majors or not.

There have been rumors of recasting, rumors that Doom will replace Kang as the next big villain, and rumors of ‘Kang Dynasty’ being scrapped altogether. Well, yesterday, several weeks ago news broke that Jonathan Majors has been found guilty of third-degree assault and one count of harassment, which could carry a jail sentence of up to one year, and rumors are rumors no longer.

Marvel Studios reps immediately went out with the statement that Majors is no longer in the MCU and that they will be proceeding without him. Later that same day news broke out that ‘Avengers: Kang Dynasty’ was no longer being referred to as such and it was instead internally called ‘Avengers 5.’ Now we know that the movie is supposed to start filming in late 2024 in the UK, but we still know next to nothing regarding writing, cast, and who will take on the role of Kang in the first place, if Kang isn’t altoghere replaced by a new more menacing villain.

According to Daniel Richtman on his private Patreon, John David Washington is being considered for the role of Kang in the MCU which would indicate that Majors did not have a special contract with Marvel Studios and that the Studio is proceeding with Kang as the main villain.

Several names were dropped to replace Kang, and we’ve also made some educated guesses on who might replace him, however, the Studio was pretty much tight-lipped about it this whole time, perhaps waiting for the dust to settle before going out in public with it.

In any case, the closer we get to ‘Avengers 5’ filming we’re bound to get more info, what do you think? Do you see John David Washington as Kang? Let us know in the comments below!
