MCU has quite a slate of projects to be released in the next 2 years. Fans are naturally most excited about the upcoming two ‘Avengers’ movies – ‘Doomsday’ and ‘Secret Wars.’

Not much is known about these movies except for the fact that Robert Downey Jr. will be returning, but not as Iron Man. This time the actor will don a different kind of mask – that of the villain – Doctor Doom.

During this year’s SDCC Russo brothers were confirmed to direct the movie, and over the last several week they did shed some light on the upcoming installment. We know that the movies won’t be filmed back-to-back, and that ‘Secret Wars’ storyline would be adapted as close as possible to the original comic storyline.

Joe Russo revealed that he wouldn’t return to the MCU without a really good reason, revealing that ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ set for release on May 1, 2026, is set to be as groundbreaking for the superhero genre as ‘Infinity War’ and ‘Endgame.’

We’re all very close. We had been working on another project before Marvel approached all of us – so we’re working on another project with Robert – and there was a story that evolved through conversations that we got very excited about. Because it’s always got to be the story.

While details are still under wraps, it’s likely the multiverse will play a big part in Downey Jr.’s return. Joe Russo promises ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ will deliver something “really explosive” when it hits theaters.

Why would we come back if we didn’t feel like we had a story that had that possibility of being on an equal footing with Infinity War and Endgame unless there’s a kernel there for an idea that’s really explosive?

Even though it’s going to be hard to top ‘Infinity War’ and ‘Endgame’ we are certain that Russos will attempt it with some brilliant twist. So far the rumors point in the direction of ‘Secret Wars’ being a soft-reboot of the MCU, and well, that sets a certain tone to the movies – a certain finality that we’ve also experienced in ‘Infinity War.’
