‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ was the biggest superhero release this year that has seen incredible success with the audiences. The movie earned over $1 billion at the box office and has seen glowing reviews by the fans.

Much of that success can be attributed to the fact that it includes plenty of legacy characters such as the return of Snipes’ Blade, Garner’s Elektra, and Evans’ Human Torch, alongside some new additions such as Tatum’s Gambit.

Due to these iconic stars returning to their roles, even a single leak from the set could have spoiled the movie for everyone. This is something that Reynolds admitted kept him up at night. Especially in the context of that big fight scene that involves nearly all legacy characters fighting in an open arena in the Void:

I was so fucking scared that people would see [Wesley Snipes, Channing Tatum, Jennifer Garner, and Dafne Keen]. Genuinely, it kept me up at night,

Ryan Reynolds explained that instead of using fake scenes or multiple scripts to prevent spoilers, the production team took a simpler approach to stop aerial photos from being taken.

They made sure the filming area was well-secured and had a plan in place in case drones were spotted. If anyone saw a drone, they would shout a warning, and everyone would quickly take cover. While they never had to use this plan, Reynolds admitted he was always worried that spoilers might leak.

We managed to lock the area off enough and we had a plan in place if anyone saw a drone – because oftentimes they got images via drone. If anyone saw a drone, we would yell it out and basically everyone runs for cover. We never had to actually deploy that little tactic, but I lived in fear of this coming out.

Director Shawn Levy explained that filming in real-world locations, despite the risk of paparazzi and spoilers, made the movie feel more authentic and gritty, something that wouldn’t have been possible on a soundstage.

We took the chances of paparazzi and spoilers because if this were all on a soundstage, I promise you this wouldn’t feel as gritty and this real.

Everything worked out in the end. Set leaks did happen but they mostly revealed some minor characters returning from the former X-Men franchise. However, these characters eventually found their way to the trailers as well so they were always meant to be revealed ahead of the movie’s release.

Rumors did successfully predict that Snipes’ Blade, Garner’s Elektra, and Evans’ Human Torch would be in the movie, however, those rumors weren’t widely spread in the community so the vast majority of fans were left in the dark.

Dafne Keen lied on several instances regarding her role in the movie and her appearance was only confirmed a few days ahead of the movie’s release when she showed up on the premiere.
