“We will be skipping”: Despite Controversy and Speculation, Ruth/Sabra Is Reportedly Still in ‘Captain America 4’

‘Captain America: Brave New World’ is set for release on February 14, 2025, marking one of the early entries in MCU’s Phase Five lineup. The film will feature Anthony Mackie as the new Captain America, succeeding Chris Evans’ portrayal of Steve Rogers in previous movies.

However, ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ experienced substantial production delays. Initially planned for release this year, the movie encountered setbacks after initial test screenings received highly negative feedback. This prompted the decision to undergo extensive reshoots to address the issues raised.

One contentious aspect of the film that drew criticism, though it’s unclear if this contributed to negative test screening reviews, was the inclusion of the character Sabra. Sabra, an Israeli superheroine, became a point of contention following the recent Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Despite calls from some fans to remove the character, the latest rumors suggest that Sabra remains part of the movie’s cast.

Sabra, also known as Ruth Bat-Seraph, is an Israeli superheroine and mutant who doubles as an agent for Mossad, Israel’s secret service. Normally, her inclusion in an MCU film wouldn’t cause much controversy. However, following recent conflicts in Palestine and international reactions to Israel’s actions, her presence sparked significant backlash.

Arab fans expressed concern that Sabra’s portrayal might perpetuate negative stereotypes about Arabs and possibly Palestinians. This led to widespread calls for her removal from the film, despite actress Shira Haas having already been cast and filmed her scenes.

And while her status was initially uncertain, recent reshoots sparked speculation among fans that Sabra might have been removed from the film due to potential backlash over the Israeli situation. However, it appears that this was not the case.

DanielRPK, a reliable insider known for accurate information and leaks, recently tweeted that Sabra is not only still part of the movie, but will also play a more prominent role as a heroine.

While this is currently just a rumor, Marvel has already assured fans that Sabra’s portrayal in the movie will be respectful and different from her comic origins.
