Sam Raimi’s New Horror Movie ‘Send Help,’ Described as a Mix Between ‘Misery’ and ‘Castaway’ Has Begun Filming
Sam Raimi is back in the director’s chair for a new horror thriller, Send Help, and filming is already underway. The Evil Dead creator has tapped Rachel McAdams and Dylan O’Brien to lead the survival horror movie, which is being produced by 20th Century Studios.
The film, written by Baywatch screenwriters Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, is described as a mix between Misery and Castaway. The story follows two colleagues who survive a plane crash and find themselves stranded on a deserted island. To make it out alive, they must put aside their differences and work together, but survival quickly turns into a battle of wits.
Producer Zainab Azizi recently shared a behind-the-scenes image on her Instagram story, showing director chairs for both her and Raimi. The caption, “Day 7,” confirms that filming has been underway for at least a week. Raimi is producing Send Help through his Raimi Productions banner alongside Azizi.
This marks Raimi’s first return to horror since Drag Me to Hell in 2009 and his first directorial project since Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. While there have been rumors of him returning to the MCU for a Doctor Strange sequel, his focus is currently on Send Help, which is expected to hit theaters.
McAdams and O’Brien bring strong resumes to the project. McAdams, known for Mean Girls, Sherlock Holmes, and Game Night, previously worked with Raimi on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. O’Brien, whose casting was announced in January 2025, has had a busy year, starring in Ponyboi, Caddo Lake, and Jason Reitman’s Saturday Night, where he played a young Dan Aykroyd.
With filming now in progress, horror fans can look forward to seeing Raimi’s signature style return to the big screen. Send Help promises a tense, gripping survival story, and we’ll have to wait and see how it plays out.
