Samuel L. Jackson is one of the biggest movie stars of his generation. Even in his 70s, he’s a very prolific actor; he starred in hundreds of movies and collaborated with numerous actors and directors, including acclaimed filmmakers like M. Night Shyamalan, Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Spike Lee, and Quentin Tarantino.

His movies collectively grossed over $27 billion, which makes him the highest-grossing actor of all time. Of course, a good part of that big number is thanks to his role as Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He first joined the biggest movie franchise in 2008’s ‘Iron Man’ in the post-credit scene and later reprised the role in various MCU projects, including the Disney+ series ‘Secret Invasion,’ which premiered last Wednesday.

Samuel L. Jackson shares his thoughts about possibly retiring from his MCU role!

Robert Downey Jr., the main star of 2008’s ‘Iron Man,’ retired from the franchise after the release of 2019’s ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ Today, Tony Stark is already long gone, but Samuel L. Jackson is still here after 15 years, which officially makes him the longest-running MCU actor.

Since he’s been part of the franchise for so long, it’s impossible not to wonder if Jackson’s time as Nick Fury is coming to an end. But according to Jackson, we have nothing to worry about as long as Kevin Feige has Jackson’s number on his phone.

“[I will keep coming back] till they stop calling me. As long as my phone rings, they can call me.”

How Old Is Nick Fury? (Comics & MCU)

Jackson’s Nick Fury had a crucial role in assembling the Avengers in MCU’s first crossover movie of the same name in 2012. After that, he reprised the role in all the other ‘Avengers’ movies and various other MCU projects. He played a digitally de-aged version of the character in 2019’s ‘Captain Marvel,’ and now he’s starring in ‘Secret Invasion,’ the first MCU project in which Nick Fury has the main role. Jackson is also set to return in ‘The Marvels’ next November. After that, it remains to be seen when we’ll see Jackson in his most prolific role.

‘Secret Invasion’ premiered the first out of six announced episodes last Wednesday, exclusively on Disney+. The series follows Nick Fury as he returns to Earth to help his Skrull friend Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) to deal with a group of rebel Skrulls who are trying to infiltrate Earth and cause a global war that would wipe out humanity.

The Skrull Gravik is the leader of that group, and Talos’ daughter G’iah is also one of the members. Apart from dealing with that whole situation, Fury will also need to deal with the PTSD that’s been bothering him ever since he was resurrected by Hulk’s snap in ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ So far, the series has received a positive response, although the fact that AI was used to create an opening sequence was heavily criticized by fans.

The first episode of ‘Secret Invasion’ is now streaming on Disney+.
