The ‘Scary Movie’ franchise is officially coming back to theaters! Marlon Wayans announced on Instagram that the new installment in the hilarious parody series will be released on June 12, 2026, by Paramount Pictures.

Marlon, along with his brothers Shawn Wayans and Keenen Ivory Wayans, are writing the script for the upcoming movie. The trio originally created the franchise. The new project was first revealed at CinemaCon last year, and fans are excited to see the Wayans brothers bring their signature comedy back to the big screen.

The ‘Scary Movie’ franchise is important because it popularized parody films that made fun of classic horror and pop culture moments, blending humor with scares in a way audiences loved.

It was a huge success, with the first movie becoming one of the highest-grossing comedies of its time and inspiring other spoof movies. The series also brought fresh energy to comedy by pushing boundaries and creating memorable jokes that are still quoted today.

Back in October, Marlon Wayans shared his excitement about the new ‘Scary Movie’ project, saying, “After nearly 20 years, the Wayans brothers are finally going to give the fans what they’ve been asking for… a return to the Scary Movie franchise!

Keenen Ivory Wayans wrote and directed the first ‘Scary Movie’ and its 2001 sequel, while Marlon and Shawn Wayans wrote and acted in both. Paramount will distribute the upcoming film globally through its partnership with Miramax, which released the first three movies.

The Wayans brothers, along with Rick Alvarez, are writing and producing the new installment. However, the director, cast, and storyline for ‘Scary Movie 6’ have not yet been revealed.
