X-Men ’97 was a major success for Marvel, despite various challenges and changes to the series canon. The show retained the animation style of the original series, featured a compelling plot, and evoked strong nostalgia among fans.

The first season was a hit, and even the controversy surrounding Beau DeMayo’s firing and alleged misconduct did not detract from the show’s success. It earned an Emmy nomination and is celebrated by both fans and critics as one of Disney’s standout Marvel projects.

With a second season confirmed and in development, there are also rumors about a third season and a potential feature-length animated movie. The upcoming Season 2 is set to introduce exciting new elements, and recent confirmations suggest fans will be thrilled with what’s in store!

Our details come from a recent Collider article covering an X-Men ’97 Q&A session. Following a screening of the first season, ComicBook’s Jamie Jirak moderated a Q&A with executive producer Brad Winderbaum, supervising producer Jake Casterona, and director Emi/Emmett Yonemura. While many questions were addressed, one stood out: Winderbaum was asked about the new characters set to appear in Season 2. Here’s what he had to say:

There’s many teams, in Marvel, that have the letter “X” that are followed by a hyphen. I would put it to you like this… there’s two other X teams in Season 2.
