Despite facing some negative reviews and backlash from self-proclaimed “fans,” The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power on Amazon has ultimately become a successful series.

The show’s second season, which premiered on August 29, 2024, concluded with its final episode, “Shadow and Flame,” on October 3, 2024. Amazon has touted the season as a success, and both critics and fans have noted it as an improvement over the first season.

However, even with production already underway, a third season has yet to be officially confirmed, leading to concerns among fans about the show’s future. The vocal negativity from a segment of fans has created a misleading impression that the series is unpopular.

For those who genuinely enjoy the show, we have some encouraging news: The Hollywood Reporter has stated that a third season is highly likely and will likely be officially confirmed soon, as work on the new season has already begun.

As we previously reported, the Season 2 finale, “Shadow and Flame,” aired on October 3, 2024, and received a generally positive response from both fans and critics. They praised the story execution and its effective setup for a potential third season.

Although a third season has not been officially confirmed yet, everything we’ve heard so far suggests that Amazon has already greenlit it, and it’s only a matter of time before the announcement is made.

The Hollywood Reporter article on which we’re basing this update states that a decision has been made and that Amazon remains committed to its original plan of five seasons totaling 50 hours. This indicates that The Rings of Power is performing well, despite what some vocal “fans” may claim.

Additionally, we’ve reported on how executives have been celebrating the impressive viewership numbers. The article mentions that studio head Jennifer Salke informed buyers at the Prime Video UK Upfront presentation in London that Season 2 has attracted over 55 million viewers.

She also mentioned that the company anticipates the second season will eventually catch up to the first, which attracted over 150 million viewers. Additionally, we can confirm that The Rings of Power topped the Nielsen chart during its recently reported second week, with over 1 billion minutes streamed.

All these statistics indicate that the season has been a success, and it’s well-known that studios typically present only those shows to buyers that they are committed to. Thus, Amazon showcasing The Rings of Power in London and inviting cast members Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Charlie Vickers, and Sophia Nomvete suggests that a third season is practically a certainty.

The Hollywood Reporter also notes that Payne and McKay have already set up a writers’ room for the third season, which includes Justin Doble (executive producer), Ben Tagoe (consulting producer), Ava Wong Davies (consulting producer), Constance Cheng (consulting producer), Jonathan Wilson (consulting producer), Griff Jones (staff writer), and Sarah Anson (staff writer).

This is excellent news for fans, and we hope the official confirmation arrives soon!
