Bucky Barnes has undergone a remarkable and well-crafted character development in the MCU. Transitioning from a villain to one of the franchise’s most beloved characters, his journey resonated with fans, especially during Civil War. However, it was The Falcon and the Winter Soldier that truly elevated him to stardom.

While fans were understandably disappointed to learn that Bucky won’t be featured in the upcoming Captain America film, he is set to appear in the forthcoming Thunderbolts* movie, with Sebastian Stan reprising his iconic role.

In his extensive interview with Variety, Sebastian Stan covered a range of topics, including his portrayal of Donald Trump in The Apprentice and his roles in the MCU. When it came to the latter, Stan candidly shared his thoughts on those who are quick to criticize the Marvel franchise, responding with the following:

It’s become really convenient to pick on [Marvel films]. And that’s fine. Everyone’s got an opinion. But they’re a big part of what contributes to this business and allows us to have smaller movies as well. This is an artery traveling through the system of this entire machinery that’s Hollywood.

It feeds in so many more ways than people acknowledge. Sometimes I get protective of it because the intention is really fucking good. It’s just fucking hard to make a good movie over and over again. In the last couple of years, I’ve gotten much more aggressive about pursuing things that I want, and I’m constantly looking for different ways of challenging myself.
