Sebastian Stan Says He’s Really Excited for ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’
With Superman just months away, excitement is already spreading for the rest of the DCU’s upcoming lineup. One of the most anticipated films is Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, starring Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El.
Sebastian Stan, known for playing Bucky Barnes, recently shared his excitement at the 2024 Comic-Con Liverpool. While discussing upcoming films, he said:
“You know what movie I’m really excited for? Supergirl! That movie is going to be f—ing great, because it’s got Craig Gillepsie directing, who is an unbelievable director. And I’m very excited about that movie.”
Gillepsie is a well-respected filmmaker with a strong track record. He directed I, Tonya (2017), where Margot Robbie played Tonya Harding and Stan co-starred as her ex-husband. He also helmed Lars and the Real Girl (2007), starring Ryan Gosling.
His involvement in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is already being seen as a major win. The excitement only grows with Jason Momoa also set to appear as the fan-favorite character Lobo.
After ten years of the DCEU, which launched with Man of Steel (2013) but fizzled out with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023), DC Studios is making big changes. Co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran have wiped the slate clean, introducing a new cinematic universe with fresh films and shows. The first project, Creature Commandos, is on the way, and Gunn himself is writing and directing the new Superman film.
Gunn is also tackling the question of The Batman universe, which starred Robert Pattinson and was directed by Matt Reeves. Rather than trying to force it into the main DCU, Gunn labeled it an Elseworlds story, a concept from DC Comics where alternate takes on characters exist in their own worlds.
The Elseworlds line included stories like Batman and Dracula: Red Rain by Doug Moench and Kelley Jones. This way, The Batman gets to continue as its own thing, with a sequel on the way, while the main DCU moves forward.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is set to release on June 26, 2026, with Superman arriving a year earlier on July 11, 2025.
