‘Agatha All Along’ will debut this week with the first two episodes. So far the social media reactions to the early premiere were overwhelmingly positive as the show seems to be tailored toward the specific audience.

The cast for the upcoming show features Kathryn Hahn as Agatha Harkness, Joe Locke as Billy Kaplan, and Sasheer Zamata as Jennifer Kale. Ali Ahn will play Alice Wu-Gulliver, while Maria Dizzia, Paul Adelstein, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, and Okwui Okpokwasili are set for roles yet to be confirmed. Debra Jo Rupp will appear as Sharon Davis, Patti LuPone as Lilia Calderu, and Aubrey Plaza as Rio Vidal/Green Witch.

Among the stellar cast for the show, you’ve probably heard rumors circulating online that Selena Gomez, one of the biggest stars today will be making an appearance in the show. This hasn’t been confirmed either by Gomez or Marvel officials, but it’s been spreading from as early as 2023.

Everything started in January of 2023 when a conversation on X (formerly Twitter) appeared:

The conversation makes sense in retrospect as it has been confirmed through teasers and marketing materials that the show will indeed explore some of the most notable witches and eras in history.

But, why is Selena Gomez associated with witchcraft? Gomez had a role in Disney Channel’s ‘Wizards of Waverly Place,’ where she played a teenage wizard. In the show, Gomez plays Alex Russo, who is part of a family with magical abilities, competing with her siblings to become the family’s sole wizard. The series follows Alex’s adventures as she balances her magical powers with everyday teenage life, often getting into trouble with spells that go awry.

The role of Alex Russo was a significant breakthrough for Gomez, making her a household name. ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ became one of Disney Channel’s most popular shows, running for four seasons and spawning a TV movie.

‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ is also set to get a sequel series, which supposedly premiere later this year and Gomez will return to her role as a guest star.

Due to this connection to Disney and Disney’s world of magic, you can see how people would jump to certain conclusions.

The latest hint that Gomez might appear in the show came from Gomez herself. Gomez commented fire emoji on an Instagram post featuring Aubrey Plaza as Rio Vidal on a poster for the upcoming show.

Is it far-fetched? I suppose it is, but still, Disney might surprise us, at least with a cameo role. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below!
