Poorna Jagannathan, who plays Zoe in the highly anticipated Lanterns series, recently opened up about the project in an interview with Collider. She praised the script, calling it the best writing she’s ever read, and highlighted its secrecy, saying, ‘This is the first script I’ve read where I completely understand the need for an NDA.’

While Lanterns dives into complex Green Lantern mythology, Jagannathan revealed that it’s written in a way that feels easy to understand, even for those unfamiliar with sci-fi. Production is moving forward quickly, with camera tests already underway.

The show features an impressive cast. Ulrich Thomsen, known for The Blacklist, will portray Sinestro, one of the most iconic DC villains. He joins Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, creating a mix of veteran leadership and fresh energy.

Writer Tom King has praised the dynamic between Chandler and Pierre, describing it as a core part of the series. King said, ‘Kyle looks like someone who flew jets for a living, and Aaron brings heart, soul, and strength to John Stewart.’

The story blends grounded crime drama with cosmic adventure. Hal Jordan, an experienced Green Lantern, and John Stewart, a newcomer, investigate a dark mystery starting in a small American town that unfolds into a galactic-scale crisis.

The show takes inspiration from gritty series like True Detective while staying rooted in the epic Green Lantern lore. Sinestro’s presence adds tension, as his fall from hero to villain could unravel across the series.

Behind the scenes, the creative team is stacked with talent. Showrunner Chris Mundy, known for his work on Ozark and True Detective: Night Country, brings experience with complex storytelling. Writers Damon Lindelof (Watchmen) and Tom King, who has a deep history with the Green Lantern comics, promise a mix of sharp TV writing and rich comic knowledge.

Aaron Pierre has shown great dedication to the role, emphasizing the importance of honoring John Stewart as one of DC’s first Black superheroes. His extensive preparation signals how seriously the team is taking the project. With the cast and creators all fired up, Lanterns is shaping up to be a game-changer when it debuts on Max in 2026.
