Shawn Levy Reveals What Happened with that “Confirmed” Professor X Cameo in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ was released 2 weeks ago, and the movie is currently breaking box office records and putting smiles on the faces of millions of fans across the globe. Much of the movie’s success can be attributed to all the legacy characters that appeared in the movie.

We know that prior to the movie’s release, more than 20 characters were rumored to reprise their roles ranging from legacy characters from the Fox X-Men franchise to characters from other Marvel properties.

Some characters were ultimately confirmed to appear ahead of the release such as Garner’s Elektra and Keen’s X-23 – and, Patrick Stewart’s Professor X.

Yes, a week or so before the movie’s release, news that Stewart was officially returning to reprise his role was making rounds online. It’s hard to track down the exact source of that rumor, but it’s clear that it wasn’t so far-fetched and was believable enough for pretty much most major outlets to pick it up.

Back in January, Stewart himself hinted that he might appear in the movie. When he was asked whether fans can expect him in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ the actor stated:

“It has come up, there’s been a process. But the last two to three years have been so difficult with the labor problems and the health problems. COVID, you know…”

But, as it turns out there were never any conversations around it at all. At least if the director of the movie, Shawn Levy is to be believed. Speaking to Happy Sad Confused podcast, Levy revealed that Professor X was never planned:

Never even discussed. [He was] studied. Studied by Emma Corrin big time because the Cassandra sibling-hood to Professor X is really interesting to us. But no, never discussed. Never, never considered.

Professor X played a big role when it came to Cassandra Nova, but besides that, it’s difficult to imagine what they would do with the character once Nova was taken care of, so what Levi said makes sense.

Levi recently also commented on how all the rumors and speculation online worked for the movie, as the internet managed to keep the secrets safe through rumors, half-truth and wild guesses.

That was one of the loudest rumors that came out of nowhere. It was never true. Thank you, internet, for building such a smokescreen of rumors and half-truths so that no one ever knew what was going to happen.
