Deadpool & Wolverine was a massive hit, surpassing the $1 billion mark and becoming the second highest-grossing film of the year, only trailing Inside Out 2. Fans embraced the movie, which is the most important factor for the franchise’s future, despite mixed reviews from critics.
The film is known for its abundance of Easter Eggs and cameos, thanks to Marvel’s access to a wide range of characters and properties, many of which made it into the final cut. However, several Easter Eggs didn’t make the final selection.
In a recent podcast appearance, Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and director Shawn Levy shared more insights about the film, particularly about the Easter Eggs. Levy revealed that several Fox-related cameos were planned or briefly included, some of which may have flown under the radar for fans focused solely on the Marvel references.
Creating a film of this scale, packed with so many references, is no easy feat. It requires striking the right balance and finding a seamless way to incorporate all the planned ideas without making them feel out of place. While Deadpool & Wolverine generally nailed this balance, there were a few moments of confusion.
For example, if you’ve paid close attention to the wasteland of the Void, you may have noticed several Easter Eggs referencing both Marvel and 20th Century Fox films. Following Disney’s acquisition of Fox, the company gained rights to numerous properties, including many non-Marvel ones, and the Deadpool & Wolverine team wanted to pay tribute to those.
Among the recognizable references were the crashed helicarrier from The Avengers and Peter Quill’s Milano spaceship from Guardians of the Galaxy.
However, there was also a mysterious colonial ship visible in the background of one scene. Many fans speculated it was the ship from Fox’s Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. Here’s what Shawn Levy had to say when asked about that particular ship:
I think that the answer is yes. (Ryan Reynolds added: “Also, the Titanic was one option, as well, and then it changed a few times.”) That’s right. We were going to have the Titanic in it, There are some Fox-centric Easter eggs. In fact, I think Nakatomi Tower [from Die Hard] is in there, as well as the CN Tower, weirdly. So, Canada wins!

Released in 2003 and directed/co-written by the legendary Peter Weir, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World starred Russell Crowe and was a big hit for Fox at the time.
Many consider it to be one of Weir’s and Crowe’s finest works. When asked about the colonial ship in Deadpool & Wolverine, Levy initially thought it might be the same ship from Master and Commander.
However, after consulting with the VFX department, he retracted his statement, revealing that it was actually “a generic ship from their library,” which they then customized with a new color and custom sails, making it a purely DP&W creation.
As you can see, the movie is still packed with surprises, and there’s plenty more to uncover. Stay tuned for more updates!
