Shawn Levy’s ‘Star Wars’ Film: New Filming Update and Rey Skywalker’s Original Role Reportedly Revealed
Several exciting Star Wars movies are in the works, including ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ set for release on May 22, 2026, with Jon Favreau directing. Other upcoming projects include films by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Dave Filoni, and James Mangold, with some still in pre-production or development.
Additionally, movies like ‘Lando’ with Donald Glover and ‘Rogue Squadron’ directed by Patty Jenkins are also planned but there’s status is currently unknown. There’s also that untitled film by Shawn Levy, but hardly anything is known about the state of the movie.
In November 2022, it was reported that Shawn Levy was in talks to direct a Star Wars film after working on ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ and ‘Stranger Things.’ However, in September 2023, Levy shared that development on the film started but was delayed due to the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike.
Following the release of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Levy confirmed that he is actively working on a movie so this development is not at all surprising.
Now industry insider Daniel Richtman shared on his Patreon account that Levy’s film might begin filming as soon as Fall 2025 in the U.K. Initially, the movie was planned to include Daisy Ridley reprising her role as an older Rey Skywalker, though details on her involvement have likely changed since then.
This is not the first project to be rumored to have Ridley’s involvement. The character is certainly being teased with a great future in the franchise, but the rumors are everything but positive, with the latest scoops claiming that her movie is on hold for the time being.
The last update that the project had was back in October when Steven Knight stepped down as the writer of ‘Star Wars: New Jedi Order.’ The movie was supposed to focus on Rey rebuilding the Jedi order based on ancient Jedi texts.
