Shawn Levy’s Star Wars Film to Shoot in Fall 2025, Plot Changes Revealed; Two New Animated Shows in the Works for Disney+
Several exciting Star Wars movies are in the works, including ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ set for release on May 22, 2026, with Jon Favreau directing. Other upcoming projects include films by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Dave Filoni, James Mangold, and Simon Kinberg, with some still in pre-production or development.
There’s also that Shawn Levy project we can definitely look forward to. In November 2022, it was reported that Shawn Levy was in talks to direct a Star Wars film, and the director revealed following the release of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ that he is hard at work on it.
Now industry insider Daniel Richtman has revealed several interesting things about the upcoming flick. Richtman reports that Shawn Levy’s Star Wars film could begin shooting in the Fall of 2025 in the UK. It appears Levy has made changes to the plot, with the original pitch set in the far future featuring an older Rey now being altered.
Besides that, not much is known about the movie. Levy did hint that his upcoming film will be a standalone story featuring new characters and exploring fresh themes in the galaxy. The movie will focus on concepts like Force, connection, and individual power.
Collaborating with screenwriter Jonathan Tropper, he is determined to avoid revisiting familiar timelines and creating a redundant story. He wants to craft something that feels organic, with a tone and characters that resonate personally, combining visual delight and wish fulfillment, which he believes is key to Star Wars.
While there are no plot details yet, Levy’s film is part of a larger slate of Star Wars projects, with no official release date confirmed.
Richtman also commented on the future of Star Wars animation claiming that two Star Wars animated projects are in the works. This is not as surprising considering that Marvel Studios is pivoting to more animated content in the future as well, and Star Wars has seen great success with ‘The Clone Wars,’ ‘Rebels’ and other similar projects.
