Shocking Box Office Numbers Reveal Why SSU Will Never End: “Now you know why Sony doesn’t wanna give up Spider-Man”

Superhero movies are fun to make but ultimately the bottom line is always money. With the recent release of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ MCU is back on track to being a hugely profitable franchise of movies. It’s expected that the most recently released installment will bring home that 1 Billion that it needs to cross 30B in earnings.

The most recent numbers posted on X by Culture Crave reveal the top 18 highest-earning movie franchises in history.

I’m sure that most of the names on this list are no surprise at all, but what might shock you is that Spider-Man movies alone brought in more than DC, the Star Wars franchise, and the Harry Potter franchise known as Wizarding World. It’s estimated that Spider-Man films have earned around $10.61B dollars up to this point, with Holland’s Spider-Man being a contributing factor in both MCU and Sony’s universe since it was a joint production.

Holland’s Spider-Man and Sam Raimi’s trilogy stand as the most profitable in the franchise with Webb’s movies trailing behind.

The Raimi Spider-Man trilogy set opening day records in North America and ranks highly among Marvel Comics films, with ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ being the highest at 2nd place. The rankings for other Spider-Man films vary, with ‘Spider-Man’ at 10th and ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ at 11th in North America. Globally, ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ ranks 3rd, while ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home,’ ‘Spider-Man 3,’ and ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ follow closely. The Raimi trilogy and MCU Spider-Man films (‘Homecoming,’ ‘Far From Home,’ and ‘No Way Home’) are among Sony/Columbia Pictures’ top-grossing films in North America, with ‘No Way Home’ being Sony’s highest-grossing film worldwide.

Fans immediately pointed out that this is likely the reason why Sony is never giving up on Spider-Man, and why it insists on pushing its own cinematic universe – SSU. SSU so far has not proven to be a success at all. It has one successful and critically acclaimed move and in the last few years it lined comically bad ‘Morbius’ and ‘Madame Web.’ And yet, they insist on it. Now you are aware of why.

We know that the fourth MCU ‘Spider-Man’ movie is in active development, and we’re sure that it’s going to shatter records as well.
