Should Disney Rehire Gina Carano? Here’s Why It May Not Be a Good Idea

Gina Carano rose to international fame as Pedro Pascal’s co-star in The Mandalorian. Her role in the series quickly made her a household name, but Disney eventually cut ties with Carano following a series of incidents she referred to as “accidents”—though many found them too frequent to be coincidental. This decision sparked a widespread controversy.

Carano has since filed a $75,000 lawsuit against Disney for damages, and it appears she may also be seeking a way to compel the company to rehire her. In this article, we’ll explore the likelihood of that happening and share our own thoughts on the matter.

Regardless of where you stand on the issue, it’s undeniable that Gina Carano has sparked her share of controversy. Whether you agree with her views or not isn’t the focus here—her posts were clearly ideological. While free speech is a fundamental right, there’s a time and place for everything.

When a major project’s actress publicly discusses politics and ideology in a discriminatory way, then compares herself to a Holocaust victim because she was labeled a bigot for being one, it hardly makes a strong case for her, does it?

Again, it’s not about whether you agree with her views; her posts were discriminatory. She targeted and attacked social groups, then painted herself as a victim. You might not agree with the woke movement or transgender issues, but mocking or attacking them is unnecessary. No one forced Carano to post those tweets or say what she did in private—it was entirely avoidable.

Carano should have focused on her acting instead of politics. She’s entitled to her opinions, but that doesn’t give her the right to mock others, and that’s the core problem here.

Even after the fallout, she hasn’t backed down. She’s filed a lawsuit against Disney and continues to stir controversy by involving herself in unrelated issues (like the Scarlett Johansson case) or randomly bringing up figures like Mark Hamill. It seems as if she’s on a mission to take down Disney, portraying it as an enemy, but the reality is much simpler—Gina Carano is vocal about her far-right views.

While she has the right to her beliefs, mocking or demeaning others doesn’t make her a champion of free speech—it makes her look like a bigot.

So, why does she want to return to Disney? Likely for ego and money, but it’s doomed to fail—and it should. How does she even plan to force Disney to rehire her? Disney is a private company, and her contract wasn’t unlawfully terminated—it simply wasn’t renewed. Legally, they have no obligation to rehire her.

And if, by some miracle, the court ruled in her favor, what would happen? Could the court dictate how Disney handles her character? Absolutely not. Disney could bring her back for one scene, kill her off immediately in a tragic accident, and move on, which would be an ironic outcome.

This is why Carano is unlikely to work for Disney again, and frankly, that’s probably for the best.
